Abstract

The purpose of this research was o determine the eflect of a contextual approach on students' mathematical understandimg and communication abilities in terms of their initial mathematicat abiliry (KAM) in the Pythagorean Theorem class Vill marerial. This research was conducted at MTs AI Thsan Serang City in the academic year 2019-2020 even semester. Methods The research method used is a quasi-esperimental, data collection techniques, namly the ability to test mathemarical understanding and communication, hypothesix testing using a wo-way Manova with a significance level of 3%.Before testing the hypothesis, the analysis prerequisite test was carried out, namely the multivariate normaliry and homogeneity test, the test normally disributed and honogeneous. From the results he analysile the data w sing Manova, h can be concluded that: there are differences in the mithenatical ndersanding and commnication abilities of students geta contextual approach with stdents who ket a scientific apjproach, there are diferences in the mathematical understanding and commication ubilities of stdents who get a contextual approach with students who get a scienrilic upproach beseen high KAM and low and there is no interaction berwee learning approaches and KAM on sudens mathemaical nderstanding and communication skills.
