Abstract

The increase in oil palm plantations in Indonesia is growing every year, causing the need for innovation in the treatment of waste from oil palm. Particle board is one of the innovations processed from palm oil waste. This study aims to evaluate and determine the effect of curing treatment on the quality of biodegradable particle board to meet SNI 03-2105-2006 standards. The preparation of samples in this study began by mixing 15% mesocarp fiber, 50% filler from palm stems, PVA-c matrix and epoxy resin 25% and 10% respectively. After that, it was printed with a compaction pressure of 30 bar for 120 minutes and a curing treatment was carried out with variable without curing treatment, curing temperature 75°C and curing temperature 150°C. The tests in this study are divided into two, namely, testing physical properties (density, moisture content, thickness development and water absorption) and testing mechanical properties (bending strength and modulus of elasticity). Based on the test results, T3 sample has the best desity value of 0.81 gr/cm3. The moisture content test obtained the best value in the T3 sample with a value of 4.4%. In the thick development test, the best value was obtained in the T3 sample of 4.9%. Likewise, the results of the mechanical properties test where the best value was found in the T3 sample with a bending strength value of 104.76 kgf/cm2 and a modulus of elasticity of 19397.1 kgf/cm2. Based on all tests, all physical properties of all samples have met the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard, while in the bending strength test, only T3 samples have met the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard and in the modulus of elasticity test, all samples have not met the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard.

Additional Information: Peningkatan perkebunan kelapa sawit di Indonesia berkembang setiap tahunnya, menyebabkan perlu adanya inovasi tentang pengolahan limbah dari kelapa sawit. Papan partikel merupakan salah satu inovasi olahan dari limbah kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevalusi dan mengetahui pengaruh perlakuan curing terhadap kualitas papan partikel biodegradable agar memenuhi standar SNI 03-2105-2006. Pembuatan sempel pada penelitian ini diawali dengan mencampurkan serat mesokarp 15%, filler dari batang kelapa sawit 50%, matriks PVA-c dan resin epoxy masing-masing 25% dan 10%. Setelah itu dilakukan dicetak dengan tekanan kompaksi sebesar 30 bar selama 120 menit dan dilakukan perlakuan curing dengan variabel tanpa perlakuan curing, suhu curing 75°C dan suhu curing 150°C. Pengujian pada penelitian ini dibagi menjadi dua yaitu, pengujian sifat fisis (densitas, kadar air, pengembangan tebal dan serapan air) dan pengujian sifat mekanis (kekuatan lentur dan modulus of elasticity). Berdasarkan hasil pengujian sempel T3 memiliki nilai desitas yang paling baik sebesar 0,81 gr/cm3. Pengujian kadar air diperoleh nilai yang paling baik terdapat pada sempel T3 dengan nilai 4,4%. Pada pengujian pengembangan tebal diperoleh nilai terbaik terdapat pada sempel T3 sebesar 4,9%. Begitu juga pada hasil pengujian sifat mekanis dimana nilai terbaik terdapat pada sempel T3 dengan nilai kekuatan lentur sebesar 104,76 kgf/cm2 dan modulus of elasticity sebesar 19397,1 kgf/cm2. Berdasarkan semua pengujian semua sifat fisis dari semua sempel sudah memenuhi standar SNI 03 2105-2006, sedangkan pada pengujian kekuatan lentur hanya sempel T3 yang memenuhi standar SNI 03-2105-2006 dan pada pengujian modulus of elasticity semua sempel belum memenuhi standar SNI 03-2105-2006.
