Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the composition of palm shell filler and bamboo fiber on the physical and thermal properties of brake pads. The composition used in this study is oil palm shells with variations of 20%, 15%, and 5%, as well as bamboo fiber with variations of 5%, 10%, and 20%. The results showed that the variation in the composition of filler and bamboo fiber affected the density, porosity, and water absorption of brake pads. Thermal stability testing through TGA revealed that different material compositions affect the decomposition temperature and ash residues produced. The use of a combination of palm shell and bamboo fibre in brake pads results in a composite material with favorable characteristics, including improved wear resistance and consistent braking performance. This study concluded that the right material composition can significantly improve the performance and safety of brake pads. So that the highest weight loss result was obtained at 2,471 mg in the 3rd variant with a composition of 5%:20%, and the smallest value in the 1st variant with a composition of 20%:5% was 1,073 mg. This mass reduction can be analyzed to see if brake pads can withstand heat in various conditions. In addition, the high weight loss indicates that the brake pads wear out quickly

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh variasi komposisi filler cangkang kelapa sawit dan serat bambu terhadap sifat fisik dan termal kampas rem. Komposisi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah cangkang kelapa sawit dengan variasi 20%, 15%, dan 5%, serta serat bambu dengan variasi 5%, 10%, dan 20%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variasi komposisi filler dan serat bambu mempengaruhi densitas, porositas, dan daya serap air kampas rem. Pengujian stabilitas termal melalui TGA mengungkapkan bahwa komposisi material yang berbeda mempengaruhi suhu dekomposisi dan residu abu yang dihasilkan. Penggunaan kombinasi cangkang kelapa sawit dan serat bambu dalam kampas rem menghasilkan material komposit dengan karakteristik yang menguntungkan, termasuk peningkatan ketahanan aus dan performa pengereman yang konsisten. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa komposisi material yang tepat dapat meningkatkan performa dan keamanan kampas rem secara signifikan. Sehingga didapatkan hasil weight loss tertinggi sebesar 2.471 mg pada varian ke 3 dengan komposisi 5%:20%, dan nilai terkecilnya pada varian ke 1 dengan komposisi 20%:5% sebesar 1.073 mg. Pengurangan massa ini yang dapat dianalisa apakah kampas rem dapat menahan panas dalam berbagai kondisi, selain itu weight loss tinggi menunjukkan kampas rem tersebut cepat mengalami keausan
