Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the impact of using pop-up card on students’ reading comprehension. The researcher employed a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design. The researcher chose VIII C as the experimental class and VIII D as the control class, both of them consisted of 30 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used instrument in the form of multiple choice question. Try out was conducted at the first step to get the data. Following the tryout, the researcher gave a pre-test to both classes. The researcher used a pop-up card to provide treatment in the experimental class and a textbook in the control class. Following the treatment, the researcher gave a post-test to both classes. The data was examined by the researcher using an independent t-test. Then the result of t test showed that the value of significant generated Sig. (Pvalue) was 0.023 < α was 0.05. It means, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Based on the computation, it can be concluded that there was significant impact of using pop-up card on students’ reading comprehension at the eighth grade of SMPN 13 Kota Serang.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dampak penggunaan kartu pop-up terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain quasi eksperimen. Peneliti memilih VIII C sebagai kelas eksperimen dan VIII D sebagai kelas kontrol, keduanya berjumlah 30 siswa. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan instrumen berupa soal pilihan ganda. Uji coba dilakukan pada langkah pertama untuk mendapatkan data. Setelah uji coba, peneliti memberikan pre-test kepada kedua kelas. Peneliti menggunakan kartu pop-up untuk memberikan perlakuan pada kelas eksperimen dan buku teks pada kelas kontrol. Setelah perlakuan, peneliti memberikan post-test kepada kedua kelas. Data diperiksa oleh peneliti dengan menggunakan uji t independen. Kemudian hasil uji t menunjukkan bahwa nilai signifikansi yang dihasilkan Sig. (P-value) adalah 0,023 < α adalah 0,05. Artinya Ha diterima dan Ho diterima ditolak. Berdasarkan perhitungan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat dampak signifikan penggunaan kartu pop-up terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa di kelas delapan SMPN 13 Kota Serang.
