Abstract
Chicken eggshell and bamboo waste in Indonesia has not received proper handling so that it can still be utilized for the manufacture of biocomposites, one of which is particle board, which has reliable performance and minimal environmental impact. The purpose of this study was to analyze and determine the difference in volume fraction variations of eggshells and betung bamboo on the physical and mechanical properties of composite boards in accordance with SNI 03-2105-2006 standards. The materials used consisted of chicken eggshell powder, betung bamboo, sengon wood, epoxy resin and PVAc glue with various volume fraction variations including 0%:25%:40%:10%:25%, 20%:25%:20%:10%:25%, 40%:25%:0%:10%:25%. The compaction process was carried out by the single punch cold press method with a pressure of 50 bar and a holding time of 120 minutes. Based on the tests that have been carried out, the best particle board characterization results are samples with a composition of 40%: 25%: 0%: 10%: 25% which have a density value, percentage of thickness development, volumetric development, water absorption, hardness and bending strength of 1.089 g/cm3, 4.08%, 7.92%, 10.06%, 47.17, and 39,51 kgf/cm2, respectively. The best macro structural observations are found in the sample with a composition of 40%:25%:0%:10%:25% which shows less porosity compared to other samples because the matrix and filler are evenly distributed.
