Abstract

Road pavement is one of the important factors supporting the development of environmentally friendly, durable, and economical road transportation infrastructure. The number of vehicles continues to increase every year resulting in road services must be improved. Indonesia is one of the slowest countries in the development of pavement innovation, unlike developed countries such as countries in Continental Europe. This research discusses the effect of the addition of jute fiber as a use in asphalt mixtures with the Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) method which aims to determine the effect of the strength of graded asphalt with the use of jute fiber on Marshall characteristics and to determine the stability value of using jute fiber in asphalt with the Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) method compared to asphalt mixtures without the use of jute fiber. This research consists of several stages, namely preparation of tools and materials, testing of materials which includes inspection of aggregates and asphalt, making test objects, marshall testing, data analysis and discussion to determine the KAO value, stage 2 marshall testing, and finally conclusions and suggestions. The asphalt concrete specimens were made with the planned asphalt content of 5%, 5.5%, 6%, 6.5% and 7% and the variation in the use of hemp fiber of 0%, 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% with each variation of 3 specimens. The results showed that the stability value with the use of hemp fiber in Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) mixture is obtained at the optimum value at 0.2% hemp fiber content, with an increase in stability of 1058.95 kg, but as the addition of hemp fiber will reduce the stability value. This is because hemp fiber can reduce VIM and VMA values because hemp fiber can fill the voids in the mixture which helps the bond between aggregates to be better and increase the stiffness of the mixture.

Additional Information: Perkerasan jalan adalah salah satu faktor penting penunjang pembangunan prasrana transportasi jalan yang ramah lingkungan, tahan lama, dan ekonomis. Jumlah kendaraan yang terus meningkat setiap tahunnya mengakibatkan pelayanan jalan harus ditingkatkan. Indonesia termasuk negara yang lambat dalam perkembangan inovasi perkerasan jalan, tidak seperti negara – negara maju di luar sana seperti negara – negara di Benua Eropa. Penelitian ini membahas tentang pengaruh penambahan serat rami sebagai penggunaan pada campuran aspal dengan metode Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kekuatan aspal bergradasi senjang dengan penggunaan serat rami terhadap karakteristik Marshall dan untuk mengetahui nilai stabilitas penggunaan serat rami pada aspal dengan metode Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) dibandingkan dengan campuran aspal tanpa penggunaan serat rami. Penelitian ini terdiri dari beberapa tahap yaitu persiapan alat dan bahan, pengujian bahan yang diliputi oleh pemeriksaan agregat dan aspal, pembuatan benda uji, pengujian marshall, analisis data dan pembahasan untuk menentukan nilai KAO, pengujian marshall tahap 2, dan terakhir kesimpulan dan saran. Benda uji aspal beton dibuat dengan kadar aspal rencana sebesar 5%, 5,5%, 6%, 6,5% dan 7% serta variasi penggunaan serat rami sebesar 0%, 0,1%, 0,2% dan 0,3% dengan masing-masing variasi benda uji sebanyak 3 buah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai stabilitas dengan penggunaan serat rami pada campuran Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) yaitu didapatkan nilai optimum pada kadar serat rami 0,2%, dengan kenaikan stabilitas sebesar 1058,95 kg, namun seiring penambahan serat rami akan menurunkan nilai stabilitas. Hal tersebut dikarenakan serat rami dapat menurunkan nilai VIM dan VMA karena serat rami dapat mengisi rongga dalam campuran yang membantu ikatan antar agregat menjadi lebih baik dan meningkatkan kekakuan pada campuran.
