Abstract

In the construction of road pavement construction in general is often found Basic soil around the project site that does not meet the soil carrying capacity value and the terms of the technical properties of the soil. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the soil by ways of stabilization of the soil. The purpose of this study was to determine the classification and type of soil based on the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) classification and to determine the effect of cement slag on the physical properties and properties of soil with a mixture of 0%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30, and to determine the value of free compressive strength with the addition of a mixture of cement slag as much as 0%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30, with a curing time of 0, 7, 14, and 28 days The results of this study obtained the classification of soil according to the AASHTO classification as silt - clay, classification group A-7-5 the most dominant type of material is clayey soil with an assessment as an ordinary to poor soil base material with a plasticity index value of 16.89%. With the addition of cement slag, there is a decrease in the plasticity index value of the soil from 16.89% to 11.14%. The qu value is found in 20% mixed soil with 7 days curing time which is 5.05 kg/cm².
