Abstract

Nabila Azzahra Putri, 2025. The Effect of Group Counseling on Reducing Academic Stress Among XII Grade Students at SMAN 4 Tangerang City. Thesis. Supervised by: Arga Satrio Prabowo, M.Pd. (Supervisor 1); Putri Dian Dia Conia, M.Psi., Psikolog (Supervisor 2). Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. This study aims to reduce students' academic stress using horticultural therapy group counseling intervention at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Tangerang. This study uses a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test non-equivalent control group design with purposive sampling technique. The research population consisted of 92 twelfth-grade students. The pre-test results showed that of the total 92 students, 30 students were in the low category, 52 students were in the medium category, and 10 were in the high category. The treatment was given to two groups, namely the experimental group and the control group, each consisting of five students selected from the highest pre-test results. The data collection technique used an academic stress questionnaire. The data analysis techniques used in this study were descriptive statistical analysis and the Mann Whitney-U hypothesis test. Based on the assessment results after the intervention, the average percentage decrease in the experimental group was 48.5%. Meanwhile, in the control group, the average percentage decrease was 20.3%. Meanwhile, based on the results of the Mann-Whitney-U hypothesis test analysis, the Asymp.Sig. (2-Tailed) value was 0.009, which is smaller than the decision-making requirement for the Mann-Whitney U hypothesis test, which is 0.05. Based on these values and the results of the analysis, there is a significant and clear difference between the two groups, thus proving that horticultural therapy is effective in reducing the academic stress levels of 12th grade students at SMAN 4 Kota Tangerang in the 2025/2026 academic year. Populasi penelitian ini merupakan siswa kelas XII sebanyak 92 siswa dengan hasil pre-test menunjukkan dari total 92 siswa, sebanyak 30 siswa pada kategori rendah, 52 siswa pada kategori sedang, dan 10 di antaranya berada pada kategori tinggi. Pemberian treatment diberikan kepada 2 kelompok, yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol dengan masing-masing sebanyak 5 siswa yang diambil dari hasil pre-test kelompok tertinggi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket stres akademik. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu analisis ststistik deskriptif dan analisis uji hipotesis uji Mann Whitney-U. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian setelah diberikan intervensi, didapati rata-rata presentase penurunan pada kelompok eksperimen berjumlah 48,5%. Sedangkan, pada kelompok kontrol rata-rata presentase penurunannya berjumlah 20,3%. Sedangkan, berdasarkan hasil analisis uji hipotesis uji Mann-Whitney-U menunjukkan nilai Asymp.Sig.(2-Tailed) sebesar 0,009 nilai ini lebih kecil dari syarat pengambilan keputusan uji hipotesis Mann-Whitney U yaitu 0,05. Berdasarkan nilai tersebut dan hasil dari perthitungan analisis menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan dan jelas antara kedua kelompok, sehingga penggunaan horticultural therapy terbukti efektif dalam menurunkan tingkat stres akademik siswa kelas XII di SMAN 4 Kota Tangerang tahun ajaran 2025/2026.
