Abstract
This study investigated the effect of the Project-Based Learning model on the reading comprehension skills of seventh-grade students at SMPN 14 Kota Serang. This study used a quantitative quasi-experimental design by dividing the research time into two groups, namely the experimental class and the control class. Data collection was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests consisting of multiple-choice questions focusing on literal comprehension material. The findings of this study concluded that there was an effect on the post-test score of the experimental group (M = 82.11) compared to the control group (M = 63.68). Statistical analysis through independent sample T-tests showed an effect in the implementation of Project-Based Learning on the reading comprehension of seventh-grade students at SMPN 14 Kota Serang. This study supports the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning model in improving literal comprehension, where students are more actively involved in project-based tasks, collaborative learning discussions, and real-life contexts. The results of this study are also in accordance with Brassell & Rasinski's Three-Level Understanding Taxonomy theory and Larmer et al.'s PjBL principles, which show that this model encourages active, reflective, and meaningful learning behavior. This research contributes to providing input in the development of learning models that will be implemented by teachers in the future and provides recommendations for the wider use of Project-Based Learning models in improving reading comprehension. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimental kuantitatif dengan membagi waktu penelitian menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui pre-test dan post-test yang terdiri dari soal pilihan ganda yang berfokus pada materi pemahaman literal. Hasil penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh pada skor post-test kelompok eksperimen (M = 82,11) dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol (M = 63,68). Analisis statistik melalui uji-T sampel independen menunjukkan adanya pengaruh dalam penerapan Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek terhadap pemahaman bacaan siswa kelas tujuh di SMPN 14 Kota Serang. Penelitian ini mendukung efektivitas model Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek dalam meningkatkan pemahaman literal, di mana siswa lebih aktif terlibat dalam tugas berbasis proyek, diskusi pembelajaran kolaboratif, dan konteks kehidupan nyata. Hasil penelitian ini juga sesuai dengan teori Taksonomi Pemahaman Tiga Tingkat Brassell & Rasinski dan prinsip PjBL Larmer dkk., yang menunjukkan bahwa model ini mendorong perilaku belajar yang aktif, reflektif, dan bermakna. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam memberikan masukan untuk pengembangan model pembelajaran yang akan diimplementasikan oleh guru di masa mendatang dan memberikan rekomendasi untuk penggunaan model Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek yang lebih luas dalam meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan.
