Abstract

This research aims to assess and evaluate the levels of organic matter in rice paddy soils within Serang City, Banten. Conducted from February to April 2025 in the Kasemen District, the study employed a qualitative descriptive approach with land surveys and laboratory tests. Soil samples were collected from both irrigated and non-irrigated rice fields with the help of local farmers. Analysis included measuring organic carbon content using the Walkley-Black method, assessing soil pH with H₂O and KCl, and determining soil moisture through oven drying. Irrigated fields generally exhibited low organic matter levels (OM >2–4%), with some areas classified as very low (<1%). Non-irrigated fields consistently had low organic matter (OM >2–3%). The soil pH ranged from acidic to neutral, while the soil moisture averaged around 3.9% to 4.0%. Returning rice straw to the fields and applying organic fertilizers have a positive impact on soil organic matter, thereby enhancing soil fertility and promoting plant growth.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai dan mengevaluasi kadar bahan organik pada tanah sawah di wilayah Kota Serang, Banten. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari hingga April 2025 di Kecamatan Kasemen dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif melalui survei lahan dan analisis laboratorium. Sampel tanah diambil dari sawah irigasi dan nonirigasi dengan bantuan petani setempat. Analisis meliputi pengukuran kandungan karbon organik menggunakan metode Walkley-Black, pengukuran pH tanah menggunakan H₂O dan KCl, serta penentuan kadar air tanah melalui metode pengeringan oven. Sawah irigasi umumnya menunjukkan kadar bahan organik yang rendah (BO >2–4%), dengan beberapa lokasi tergolong sangat rendah (<1%). Sawah nonirigasi secara konsisten memiliki kadar bahan organik yang rendah (BO >2–3%). Nilai pH tanah berkisar dari masam hingga netral, sedangkan kadar air tanah rata-rata berada pada kisaran 3,9% hingga 4,0%. Pengembalian jerami padi ke lahan serta pemberian pupuk organik memberikan dampak positif terhadap peningkatan bahan organik tanah, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kesuburan tanah dan mendukung pertumbuhan tanaman.
