Abstract
This research is motivated by the importance of improving students’ cognitive learning outcomes in mathematics, particularly in the topic of function operations. In fact, many students still experience difficulties in understanding concepts and solving problems related to function operations, resulting in less optimal learning outcomes. Therefore, it is necessary to apply an appropriate learning model to enhance students’ cognitive learning outcomes. One of the models applied is Problem Based Learning (PBL). The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in students’ cognitive learning outcomes between those who receive learning through the Problem Based Learning model and those who receive conventional (lecture based) learning, as well as to examine whether the improvement in cognitive learning outcomes of students taught using Problem Based Learning is better than those taught using conventional learning. This research employed a quasi experimental method with The Nonequivalent Pretes Posttest Control Group Design. The study was conducted on grade XI senior high school students in the 2025/2026 academic year. The results indicate that there are significant differences in the cognitive learning outcomes of students taught with the Problem Based Learning model compared to those taught using conventional (lecture based) learning. Moreover, the improvement in cognitive learning outcomes of students taught through Problem Based Learning is better than that of students who were taught through conventional learning.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi oleh pentingnya peningkatan hasil belajar kognitif siswa pada mata pelajaran matematika, khususnya pada materi operasi fungsi. Namun, kenyataannya banyak siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami konsep dan menyelesaikan soal terkait operasi fungsi sehingga hasil belajarnya belum optimal. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan suatu model pembelajaran yang tepat untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar kognitif siswa. Salah satu model yang digunakan adalah Problem Based Learning (PBL). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar kognitif siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan model Problem Based Learning dibandingkan dengan siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran konvensional, serta untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar kognitif siswa dengan penerapan model Problem Based Learning lebih baik dibandingkan dengan model pembelajaran konvensional. Jenis penelitian ini merupakan kuasi eksperimen dengan desain The Nonequivalent Pretest Posttest Control Group Design. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas XI SMA pada tahun ajaran 2025/2026. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar kognitif siswa yang diajar menggunakan model Problem Based Learning dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional (ceramah), serta peningkatan hasil belajar kognitif siswa dengan penerapan model Problem Based Learning lebih baik dibandingkan dengan siswa yang belajar melalui pembelajaran konvensional. | |||||||||
