Abstract

The availability of accurate rainfall data is an important requirement in hydrological and meteorological studies. However, the limitations of observation stations in certain areas, such as in Pabuaran District, are an obstacle in obtaining representative data. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of GSMaP satellite rainfall data against rainfall observation data at the Pabuaran Rainfall Post during the 2014-2023 period, at three time periods, namely daily which includes heavy rain (>50 mm/day), 15 daily, and monthly. The analysis method include data consistency using the RAPS method, calibration using various regression models (linear, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and power), and validation using RMSE, NSE, and correlation coefficient (r) parameters. The analysis results show that the initial correlation between GSMaP and observational data ranges from very low (r = 0.192) in the daily period to very strong (r = 0.961) in the monthly period. After calibration, the second-order polynomial model gave the best results, especially in the monthly period with NSE = 0.837. Validation of the corrected data shows that GSMaP is quite accurate and feasible to use as an alternative data source for rainfall analysis, especially in the monthly period.
