Abstract
The research was motivated by the problems found in class VII of SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung who were not yet able to recognize the vowels a, i, u, e, o. This study aims to determine the improvement of early reading skills with the target of recognizing vowels of mentally retarded children through sensory path educational media. This research uses a quantitative experimental approach with the single subject research (SSR) method. The research design used in this study is A-B-A. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics and displayed through line graphs. The subject in this study focused on a child with intellectual disability in class VII at SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung with the initials W. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the use of sensory path educational media can improve early reading skills with the target of recognizing vowels of mentally retarded children in class VII at SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung. This is shown by the increase in the average data acquisition on both target behaviors. The results obtained by target behavior 1 (mentioning vowels) in phase A1 (baseline-1) were 33%, after intervention in phase B the average data acquisition increased to 86.63% and after intervention the average data acquisition obtained in phase A2 (baseline-2) was 73%. For target behavior 2 (showing vowels) the average data acquisition obtained in phase A1 (baseline-1) was 33%, after intervention in phase B the average data acquisition obtained increased to 85.75% and after intervention the average data acquisition obtained in phase A2 (baseline-2) was 73%. In conclusion, the use of sensory path educational media can improve the initial reading ability of mentally retarded children in grade VII at SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan membaca permulaan dengan target mengenal huruf vokal anak tunagrahita melalui media edukasi sensory path. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif eksperimen dengan metode single subject research (SSR). Desain penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah A-B-A. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan di tampilkan melalui grafik garis. Subjek dalam penelitian ini terfokus pada seorang anak tunagrahita kelas VII di SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung dengan inisial W. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, diketahui bahwa penggunaan media edukasi sensory path dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan dengan target mengenal huruf vokal anak tunagrahita kelas VII di SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung. Hal ini ditunjukkan meningkatnya rata-rata perolehan data pada kedua target behavior. Hasil yang di dapat target behavior 1 (menyebutkan huruf vokal) pada fase A1 (baseline-1) adalah 33%, setelah dilakukan intervensi pada fase B rata-rata perolehan data yang di dapat meningkat menjadi 86,63% dan setelah diberikannya intervensi rata-rata perolehan data yang didapat pada fase A2 (baseline-2) adalah 73%. Untuk target behavior 2 (menunjukkan huruf vokal) hasil rata-rata perolehan data yang di dapat pada fase A1 (baseline-1) adalah 33%, setelah dilakukan intervensi pada fase B rata-rata perolehan data yang di dapat meningkat menjadi 85,75% dan setelah diberikannya intervensi rata-rata perolehan data yang didapat pada fase A2 (baseline-2) adalah 73%. Kesimpulannya penggunaan media edukasi sensory path dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca permulaan terhadap anak tunagrahita kelas VII di SKh PGRI Rangkasbitung.
