Abstract
This study aims to describe the optimization of the Understanding by Design (UbD) curriculum approach in 21st-century learning at SDIT Citra Bangsa. In facing the challenges of globalization, education is required to produce students who are not only academically superior, but also have 21st-century skills that include critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration (4C). One curriculum approach that is able to answer these needs is UbD, which applies backward design with a primary focus on achieving deep understanding of students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews with principals and teachers, observations of the learning process, and documentation of teaching materials and student work. The results of the study indicate that the UbD approach has been implemented systematically at SDIT Citra Bangsa. Teachers design learning with clear objectives, authentic assessments, and contextual learning activities. Students show improvements in 4C skills, as well as a more meaningful understanding of the material. However, several obstacles were found, such as the lack of teacher training on UbD and difficulties in compiling appropriate assessments. Overall, the implementation of UbD at SDIT Citra Bangsa shows positive results and is relevant to the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. | Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan optimalisasi pendekatan kurikulum Understanding by Design (UbD) dalam pembelajaran abad 21 di SDIT Citra Bangsa. Dalam menghadapi tantangan globalisasi, pendidikan dituntut untuk menghasilkan peserta didik yang tidak hanya unggul secara akademik, tetapi juga memiliki keterampilan abad 21 yang mencakup kemampuan berpikir kritis, kreativitas, komunikasi, dan kolaborasi (4C). Salah satu pendekatan kurikulum yang mampu menjawab kebutuhan tersebut adalah UbD, yang menerapkan desain mundur (backward design) dengan fokus utama pada pencapaian pemahaman mendalam peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara dengan kepala sekolah dan guru, observasi proses pembelajaran, serta dokumentasi perangkat ajar dan hasil karya siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan UbD telah diimplementasikan secara sistematis di SDIT Citra Bangsa. Guru merancang pembelajaran dengan tujuan yang jelas, asesmen autentik, dan kegiatan belajar kontekstual. Peserta didik menunjukkan peningkatan dalam keterampilan 4C, serta pemahaman materi yang lebih bermakna. Namun, beberapa kendala ditemukan, seperti kurangnya pelatihan guru mengenai UbD dan kesulitan dalam menyusun asesmen yang sesuai. Secara keseluruhan, penerapan UbD di SDIT Citra Bangsa menunjukkan hasil yang positif dan relevan dengan tuntutan Kurikulum Merdeka.
