Abstract

This study analyzes of parenting styles and reading culture at home on reading comprehension skills of grade 4 students of SDN Banjar Agung 2, Serang City. The method in this research is qualitative with case study approach, where researchers directly observe behavior, interact, and understand the interpretation of research subjects in their natural environment. Data collection techniques used include giving questions to measure students' reading comprehension skills, questionnaires to parents to obtain information related to parenting styles, and reading culture at home, and interviews with teachers regarding literacy activities carried out in class. The results of the study showed that students who received democratic parenting styles and were routinely accustomed to reading at home tended to have better reading comprehension skills, although in general the level of students' high-level thinking skills (HOTS) was still low. Most parents apply permissive or authoritarian parenting styles, and only a few apply democratic parenting styles. Consistent reading culture at home have been shown to contribute positively to students' reading comprehension. The limitations of this study include the short implementation time, the data obtained from teachers and parents are still limited and inconsistent, and there is ambiguity in the questionnaire answers which causes the data interpretation to be less than optimal. The solutions and recommendations offered include: (1) Parents are expected to be more active in implementing democratic parenting styles and getting used to reading at home, (2) Schools need to strengthen cooperation with parents through family literacy programs, (3) Teachers are encouraged to provide motivation and reading assistance that involves the participation of parents, (4) Local governments are advised to provide reading material facilities that are easily accessible and create special policies to encourage family literacy. Additional Information: Penelitian ini menganalisis pola asuh orang tua dan pembiasaan membaca di rumah terhadap kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa kelas 4 SD Negeri Banjar Agung 2, Kota Serang. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus, di mana peneliti secara langsung mengamati perilaku, berinteraksi, dan memahami tafsiran subjek penelitian dalam lingkungan alaminya. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan meliputi pemberian soal untuk mengukur kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa, angket kepada orang tua untuk memperoleh informasi terkait pola asuh, dan kebiasaan membaca di rumah, serta wawancara dengan guru mengenai aktivitas literasi yang dilakukan di kelas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang mendapatkan pola asuh demokratis dan rutin dibiasakan membaca di rumah cenderung memiliki kemampuan membaca pemahaman yang lebih baik, meskipun secara umum tingkat kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi (HOTS) siswa masih rendah. Sebagian besar orang tua menerapkan pola asuh permisif atau otoriter, dan hanya sedikit yang menerapkan pola asuh demokratis. Kebiasaan membaca di rumah yang konsisten terbukti berkontribusi positif terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa. Keterbatasan penelitian ini antara lain waktu pelaksanaan yang singkat, data yang diperoleh dari guru dan orang tua masih terbatas dan kurang konsisten, serta adanya ambiguitas dalam jawaban angket yang menyebabkan interpretasi data menjadi kurang optimal. Solusi dan rekomendasi yang ditawarkan meliputi: (1) Orang tua diharapkan lebih aktif menerapkan pola asuh demokratis dan membiasakan membaca di rumah, (2) Sekolah perlu memperkuat kerja sama dengan orang tua melalui program literasi keluarga, (3) Guru didorong untuk memberikan motivasi dan pendampingan membaca yang melibatkan peran serta orang tua, (4) Pemerintah daerah disarankan menyediakan fasilitas bahan bacaan yang mudah diakses dan membuat kebijakan khusus untuk mendorong literasi keluarga.
