Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) on students' learning independence and conceptual understanding of evolution material at the senior high school level. This study uses a quantitative approach with a weak experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population consists of all Grade XII Science students at SMAN 2 Kota Tangerang for the 2024/2025 academic year, with a sample of 70 Grade XII Science students selected using random sampling as the experimental group. Data collection techniques include non-test methods such as questionnaires to measure learning autonomy and essay tests to assess students' conceptual understanding. The average learning independence score was 79.1, categorized as high. The average concept understanding score was 57.9, categorized as sufficient. Data analysis for learning independence was conducted using the Paired Sample Test, and data analysis for concept understanding used the non-parametric Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the use of the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) had a significant effect on improving students' learning independence and conceptual understanding, with a p-value of <0.001 < 0.05.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) terhadap kemandirian belajar dan pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi evolusi di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode weak experimental dengan desain One-Group Pretest-Posttest. Populasi penelitian yaitu seluruh siswa/i kelas XII MIPA SMAN 2 Kota Tangerang tahun ajaran 2024/2025 dengan pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik random sampling dengan sampel 70 siswa kelas XII MIPA sebagai kelas eksperimen. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan non-tes berupa kuesioner untuk mengukur kemandirian belajar dan tes uraian untuk mengukur pemahaman konsep siswa. Nilai rata-rata kemandirian belajar 79,1 dengan kategori tinggi. Kemudian nilai rata-rata pemahaman konsep 57,9 dengan kategori cukup. Analisis data kemandirian belajar dilakukan menggunakan uji Paired Sample Test dan analisis data pemahaman konsep menggunakan uji non parametrik Wilcoxon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap peningkatan kemandirian belajar dan pemahaman konsep siswa dengan nilai p-value sebesar <0,001 < 0,05.
