Abstract
Rice (Oryza sativa L.), Indonesia’s main food crop, suffers significant yield losses due to brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens) infestations, which also act as vectors for viral diseases. Excessive use of synthetic pesticides has led to environmental contamination and pest resistance, prompting the need for safer, eco-friendly alternatives. This research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of soursop (Annona montana) leaf extract as a botanical insecticide against N. lugens. The experiment was conducted from October to December 2024 at the Indonesian Center for Forecasting Plant Pests (BBPOPT) in Jatisari, Karawang, using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five extract concentrations (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%) and five replications, totaling 25 experimental units. Each unit contained ten fourth-instar N. lugens nymphs. Observations were carried out daily for seven days, measuring mortality rate, lethal time, and morphological changes. Results showed that concentrations of 10% to 40% achieved mortality rates between 94% and 100%, with the highest efficacy (100%) observed at concentrations of 30% and above. The 40% concentration yielded the shortest lethal time of 1.24 days, significantly faster than 2.90 days at 10%. Treated insects exhibited distinct morphological alterations such as desiccation, shrinkage, and darkened cuticle, indicating toxic effects from bioactive compounds like annonaceous acetogenins. Statistical analysis confirmed a significant correlation between extract concentration and insect mortality. In conclusion, A. montana leaf extract demonstrated high efficacy in controlling N. lugens, with 40% concentration being the most effective in both mortality and speed of action, supporting its potential as a sustainable pest control alternative in rice cultivation.

| ||||||||||||
