Abstract
Karate requires both physical endurance and mental stability. Training environments can influence athletes’ psychological and physiological responses. This study aims to compare the psychological and physiological workload of karate athletes under indoor and outdoor training conditions. Data were collected using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) to assess mood, the Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) questionnaire to measure fatigue, and heart rate monitoring to capture physiological strain. The research involved 30 athletes from Bandung Karate Club – Ranting Lembang. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Paired Sample T-Test. The results showed that indoor training caused higher psychological and physical workload than outdoor training. The Total Mood Disturbance (TMD) score was 1399 for indoor training and –158 for outdoor, indicating better emotional states outdoors. Average heart rate was 126.6 bpm indoors and 95.9 bpm outdoors. The IFRC scores also indicated greater fatigue during indoor sessions. A significant difference (p < 0.05) was found in all indicators between the two training settings. This study suggests that outdoor environments provide better physiological and psychological benefits for karate athletes and should be prioritized in training design

Additional Information: | Karate merupakan cabang olahraga bela diri yang menuntut ketahanan fisik dan stabilitas mental. Lingkungan latihan dapat memengaruhi respons psikologis dan fisiologis atlet. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan beban kerja psikologis dan fisiologis atlet karate dalam kondisi latihan indoor dan outdoor. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi Profile of Mood States (POMS) untuk penilaian suasana hati, kuesioner Industrial Fatigue Research Committee (IFRC) untuk kelelahan, dan pengukuran denyut jantung sebagai indikator fisiologis. Penelitian melibatkan 30 atlet dari Bandung Karate Club Ranting Lembang. Analisis statistik dilakukan menggunakan Paired Sample T-Test. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa latihan indoor menimbulkan beban psikologis dan kelelahan fisik yang lebih tinggi dibanding outdoor. Skor Total Mood Disturbance (TMD) pada kondisi indoor sebesar 1399, sedangkan outdoor –158. Rata-rata denyut jantung saat indoor adalah 126,6 bpm dan outdoor 95,9 bpm. Skor IFRC juga menunjukkan kelelahan yang lebih tinggi pada latihan indoor. Uji T menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan (p < 0,05) pada semua indikator. Latihan outdoor disarankan karena memberikan manfaat fisiologis dan psikologis yang lebih baik bagi atlet karate. | |||||||||
