Abstract

Seagrass beds function as filtration, habitat for marine biota, nursery for various types of marine biota, food sources, coastal stabilizers, and play an important role in mitigating climate change. One of the threats to the ecological health of seagrass beds and the trophic status of coastal waters around Tunda Island, Banten is eutrophication caused by anthropogenic activities from both native and immigrant communities. This study aims to assess the ecological health status of seagrass beds and determine the trophic status of the waters around Tunda Island. The research methods applied include calculating the Seagrass Ecosystem Quality Index (SEQI) and the Trophic Level Index (TLI). Determination of station points using the purposive sampling method where each station has 3 transect lines of 100 m (11 plots) and one air sample is taken on the 2nd transect line in the middle of each station. The results of the study showed that the condition of the seagrass ecosystem on Tunda Island ranged from poor to good. Stations 1 and 2 showed good seagrass health, stations 3 and 5 were categorized as moderate, and station 4 was categorized as poor seagrass health. The trophic status of waters at several stations was identified as eutrophic to supereutrophic. The two assessment methods cannot be directly correlated because there is inconsistency between the measured indices and the actual nutrient conditions in the air column. Further research should be focused on effective coastal resource management strategies and long-term monitoring programs to maintain seagrass ecosystem services.

Additional Information: Terumbu lamun memiliki berbagai fungsi penting seperti filtrasi, habitat, tempat asuhan, sumber makanan, penstabil pesisir, dan berperan dalam mitigasi perubahan iklim. Namun, kesehatan ekologis lamun dan status trofik perairan di sekitar Pulau Tunda, Banten terancam oleh eutrofikasi akibat aktivitas antropogenik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kesehatan ekologis lamun menggunakan Indeks Kualitas Ekosistem Lamun (SEQI) dan status trofik perairan dengan Indeks Tingkat Trofik (TLI). Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara purposive sampling di setiap stasiun dengan tiga jalur transek 100 m dan satu sampel air. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi ekosistem lamun di Pulau Tunda bervariasi dari buruk hingga baik; stasiun 1 dan 2 dalam kondisi baik, stasiun 3 dan 5 sedang, sedangkan stasiun 4 buruk. Status trofik perairan di beberapa stasiun teridentifikasi eutrofik hingga supereutrofik. Namun, kedua metode penilaian ini tidak dapat langsung dikorelasikan karena adanya inkonsistensi antara indeks terukur dan kondisi nutrien aktual di kolom air. Oleh karena itu, penelitian lebih lanjut perlu difokuskan pada strategi pengelolaan sumber daya pesisir yang efektif dan program pemantauan jangka panjang untuk menjaga layanan ekosistem lamun.
