Abstract
Aluminium is a non-ferrous metal commonly used as a substitute for steel due to its lightweight nature, corrosion resistance, good strength, and lower density compared to steel. The 5083 series aluminium is an alloy composed mainly of magnesium and a small amount of manganese. While 5083 series aluminium is lighter than other aluminium series, it exhibits relatively low hardness and mechanical strength. Therefore, the addition of other alloying elements is necessary to improve its mechanical properties, especially for applications in the automotive sector, such as electric vehicles (EVs). One method to enhance these properties involves the addition of manganese and the application of heat treatment. This research was conducted using recycled aluminium scrap through a metal casting process, with aluminium and silicon as the main components, and additional elements such as magnesium and manganese master alloys in varying compositions of 0.7%, 1.0%, and 1.3%. The samples then underwent heat treatment with homogenization temperatures of 225°C, 250°C, and 275°C. The results of the study show that all samples demonstrated ductile behavior, as evidenced by the tensile strength comparison between the cast products and the base metal. The ductility observed in the cast samples is attributed to diffusion during the heat treatment process. The optimal sample was obtained from the casting with 1.0% manganese addition and a homogenization temperature of 275°C, and ultimate tensile strength of 206.97 MPa.

Additional Information: | Aluminium merupakan logam non ferro yang digunakan sebagai material pengganti baja dikarenakan memiliki sifat yang ringan, ketahanan korosi, kekuatan yang baik, dan kepadatan rendah dibanding baja. Aluminium seri 5083 merupakan perpaduan magnesium dan sedikit mangan. Aluminium seri 5083 memiliki sifat yang ringan dibandingkan dengan seri lainnya, akan tetapi pada aluminium seri 5083 memiliki nilai kekerasan dan kekuatan yang rendah sehingga diperlukan penambahan unsur lain guna meningkatkan nilai sifat mekanik pada aluminium seri 5083 khususnya pada bidang otomotif (electric vehicle). Salah satu penambahan unsur lainnya yaitu penambahan mangan dan proses heat treatment. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan proses pengecoran logam aluminium bekas pakai dengan komposisi utama yaitu Aluminium dan Silicon dengan penambahan unsur lain seperti magnesium dan mangan masteralloy dengan variasi 0,7%, 1,0%, 1,3%. Setelah itu dilakukan proses heat treatment dengan variasi temperatur homogenisasi sebesar 225°C, 250°C dan 275°C. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh kesimpulan yaitu, pada setiap sampel memiliki sifat ulet yang dibuktikan pada perbandingan nilai kuat tarik hasil coran dengan base metal. Sifat ulet pada hasil coran disebabkan karena difusi yang terjadi dari proses heat treatment. Sampel terbaik yang dihasilkan dari hasil coran yang ditambahkan unsur mangan sebesar 1,0% dan temperatur homogenisasi 275°C dengan nilai kuat tarik sebesar 206,97 MPa. | |||||||||
