Abstract
In the conventional method, electricity consumption was recorded manually by personnel who visited customers’ premises; however, this approach often led to errors. To overcome this issue, the electricity company installed electronic meters connected to the Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) system as a tool to automatically and in real-time record energy usage. Nevertheless, the AMR system still experienced measurement abnormalities caused by both technical and non-technical disturbances. These abnormalities resulted in inaccurately measured energy, leading to energy and financial losses, as well as billing inaccuracies that ultimately triggered the issuance of back billing to customers. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of energy measurement abnormalities, identify their causes, and calculate the resulting energy and financial losses. The method used involved analyzing measurement results from the AMR system, including load profiles, instantaneous data, and historical electricity usage of customers. The findings revealed abnormalities such as unbalanced current, unbalanced voltage, and blank kWh meters, with total energy losses reaching 188.043,517 kWh and financial losses amounting to IDR 190.558.308,325. These abnormalities were caused by technical issues such as broken CT jumper cables, tripped CVT MCBs, and non-technical causes such as blank kWh meters due to external factors.
