Abstract

This study analyzes the effect of volume fraction variations of bamboo fiber and eggshell on the physical and mechanical properties of brake pad composites for applications in corrosive environments. Three compositions were tested: V1 (25% eggshell), V2 (12.5% eggshell + 12.5% bamboo fiber), and V3 (25% bamboo fiber), with a matrix of 50% epoxy resin, 10% alumina, 5% ZnO, and 10% graphite. Physical tests (moisture content, water absorption, and thickness swelling) were conducted after 24 hours of seawater immersion. Based on the physical tests and Multi-Response Performance Index (MRPI) ranking, V3 exhibited the best physical properties with a moisture content of 3.95%, water absorption of 8.22%, and thickness swelling of 2.4%. Consequently, V3 was selected for mechanical testing (flexural strength and Shore D hardness) after seawater immersion for 7, 14, and 21 days. The results showed that V3 achieved a flexural strength of 13.15 MPa and a hardness of 55.33 Shore D after 21 days. These findings demonstrate optimal resistance to corrosive environments, fulfilling the requirements for brake pads in corrosive conditions with superior physical and mechanical properties.

Berdasarkan pengujian fisik dan peringkat Multi-Response Performance Index (MRPI) komposisi V3 menunjukkan sifat fisik terbaik dengan moisture content 3,95%, daya serap air 8,22%, dan pengembangan tebal 2,4%, sehingga V3 dipilih untuk pengujian mekanik (kekuatan lentur sesuai dan kekerasan Shore D) setelah perendaman air laut selama 7, 14, dan 21 hari. Hasil menunjukkan V3 memiliki kekuatan lentur 13,15 MPa dan kekerasan 55,33 Shore D setelah 21 hari. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan ketahanan optimal terhadap lingkungan korosif dan memenuhi kebutuhan kampas rem di lingkungan korosif dengan sifat fisik dan mekanik yang unggul.
