Abstract

Critical thinking is an essential competency in education; however, history learning at SMA Negeri 7 Kota Serang still faces several challenges, such as low academic achievement and limited student participation. The dominance of lecture-based methods and the lack of questions that stimulate analytical thinking hinder the achievement of learning objectives. The RADEC learning model (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) offers an innovative, student-centered approach that emphasizes the development of critical thinking skills. Although proven effective in science education, its application in history learning remains limited. This study aims to examine the influence of the RADEC model on enhancing students' critical thinking skills in history learning. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 7 Kota Serang from May 6 to May 31, 2024, using a quasi-experimental method. The research design involved comparing pretest and posttest results to measure the effectiveness of the treatment. Class XI IPA 3 was assigned as the experimental group, while Class XI IPA 4 served as the control group. The research instrument consisted of seven essay questions designed to assess students’ critical thinking abilities. The results showed that the t-value (thitung) = 7.795 was greater than the critical t-table value (tₜabel)= 2.00 at a significance level of α = 0.05, indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the RADEC learning model has a significant effect on improving students’ critical thinking skills in history learning.

Additional Information: Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan kompetensi penting dalam pendidikan, namun pembelajaran sejarah di SMA Negeri 7 Kota Serang masih menghadapi kendala, seperti rendahnya nilai akademik dan partisipasi siswa. Dominasi metode ceramah serta soal yang belum melatih analisis mendalam menjadi hambatan dalam mencapai tujuan pembelajaran. Model pembelajaran RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) menawarkan pendekatan inovatif yang menekankan keterlibatan aktif siswa dan pengembangan berpikir kritis. Meskipun terbukti efektif di bidang sains, penerapannya dalam pembelajaran sejarah masih minim. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh model RADEC terhadap peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam pembelajaran sejarah. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 7 Kota Serang pada tanggal 6 hingga 31 Mei 2024 dengan menggunakan metode quasi eksperimen. Desain penelitian dilakukan melalui perbandingan hasil pretest dan posttest untuk mengetahui efektivitas perlakuan. Kelas XI IPA 3 ditetapkan sebagai kelompok eksperimen, sedangkan kelas XI IPA 4 sebagai kelompok kontrol. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur keberhasilan penelitian berupa tujuh butir soal uraian yang dirancang untuk menguji kemampuan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa thitung = 7,795 > ttabel = 2,00, dengan α = 0,05 sehingga Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Dengan begitu, penggunaan model pembelajaran RADEC pada pembelajaran sejarah berpengaruh pada kemampuan berpikir kritis.
