Abstract

Critical thinking skills are developed through chemistry learning on the basic laws of chemistry using a student-centered learning model so that students can be active during the learning process, making it very suitable to use a problem- based learning model. This study aims to determine the improvement in students' critical thinking skills after applying the PBL learning model to the basic laws of chemistry. This research is a quantitative quasi-experimental study using a pretest- posttest non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 31 students from class X2 as the control group and 31 students from class X3 as the experimental group at SMA Negeri 4 Kota Serang, selected using purposive sampling. This study consists of four instruments: teaching modules, worksheets, critical thinking ability questions, and observation sheets. The research data obtained were processed descriptively using Microsoft Excel and inferential analysis such as validity, reliability, N-gain, normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing using SPSS 27.0. The results of the study indicate an improvement in students' critical thinking skills after the implementation of the PBL learning model. This was evidenced by the sig. (2-tailed) value in the hypothesis test of 0.004 < 0.05 in the control class and the experimental class, meaning that Ho was rejected and H1 was accepted. Meanwhile, the observation sheet obtained an overall average percentage of 64% in the control class, which was categorized as good, and 82% in the experimental class, which was categorized as very good.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran PBL pada materi hukum-hukum dasar kimia. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif quasi experimental dengan menggunakan desain penelitian Pretest Posttest Non-equivalent Control Group Design. Sampel pada penelitian yaitu siswa kelas X2 sebagai kelas kontrol dan X3 sebagai kelas eksperimen di SMA Negeri 4 Kota Serang, masing-masing sebanyak 31 orang dengan pengambilan sampel menggunakan purposive sampling. Penelitian ini terdiri dari empat instumen yaitu modul ajar, LKPD, Soal kemampuan berpikir kritis, dan lembar observasi. Data penelitian yang diperoleh diolah secara deskriptif menggunakan Microsoft excel dan analisis inferensial seperti uji validitas, reliabelitas, N-gain, normalitas, homogenitas, dan hipotesis menggunakan aplikasi SPSS 27.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran PBL. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai sig.(2-tailed) pada uji hipotesis sebesar 0,004 < 0,05 pada kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen yang berarti Ho ditolak dan H1 diterima. Sedangkan untuk lembar observasi mendapat rata-rata persentase keseluruhan sebesar 64% pada kelas kontrol yang termasuk ke dalam kategori baik dan sebesar 82% pada kelas eksperimen yang termausk ke dalam kategori sangat baik.
