Abstract
This study aims to identify the types and causes of students’ errors in solving matrix problems based on Newman's theory at Islamic Centre Senior High School in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data were collected through tests and interviews. The subjects of this study were 33 eleventh-grade students of Islamic Centre Senior High School. The results showed the percentage of errors made by students in solving matrix problems based on Newman's theory as follows: (a) reading errors at 7.87%, (b) comprehension errors at 26.06%, (c) transformation errors at 44.84%, (d) process skills errors at 54.54%, and (e) endcoding errors at 23.63%. The causes of these errors include rushing and lack of accuracy in reading the questions, misunderstanding the meaning of the problems, using incorrect formulas, missteps in calculations, and being hasty in completing the tasks.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis dan penyebab kesalahan siswa dalam penyelesaian soal matriks berdasarkan teori Newman di SMA Islamic Centre Tahun Pelajaran 2024/2025. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode tes dan wawancara. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI SMA Islamic Centre yang berjumlah 33 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan persentase kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam penyelesaian soal matriks berdasarkan teori newman adalah: (a) persentase kesalahan membaca yang dilakukan oleh siswa sebesar 7,87%, (b) persentase kesalahan memahami yang dilakukan oleh siswa sebesar 26,06%, (c) persentase kesalahan transformasi yang dilakukan oleh siswa sebesar 44,84%, (d) persentase kesalahan keterampilan proses yang dilakukan oleh siswa sebesar 54,54%, (e) persentase kesalahan penulisan jawaban akhir yang dilakukan oleh siswa sebesar 23,63%. Adapun penyebab kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa diantaranya adalah tergesa-gesa dan kurang teliti dalam membaca soal, tidak memahami maksud dari soal, salah menggunakan rumus yang digunakan, kurang dalam proses perhitungan, dan terburu-buru dalam menyelesaikan perhitungan. | |||||||||
