Abstract
This study is motivated by the importance of mathematical reasoning ability in mathematics learning. However, in reality, students’ mathematical reasoning ability remains low. One factor contributing to this issue is the use of less effective learning approaches. Therefore, an appropriate learning approach is needed to enhance this ability. As an alternative, the metacognitive approach is believed to be capable of improving students’ mathematical reasoning ability. The implementation of the metacognitive approach in learning trains students to plan, monitor, and evaluate their thinking abilities through metacognitive skills, such as providing guided questions. This approach also facilitates students in effectively achieving indicators of mathematical reasoning. The purpose of this study is to determine the improvement of students’ mathematical reasoning ability between those who received the metacognitive approach and those who did not. This research was conducted at MTs Negeri 5 Serang in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. The instruments in this study included a mathematical reasoning ability test and a student response questionnaire toward the metacognitive approach. The results showed that the improvement in mathematical reasoning ability of students who received the metacognitive approach was better than that of students who received the scientific approach.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya kemampuan penalaran matematis dalam pembelajaran matematika. Namun, kenyataannya, kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa masih rendah. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi hal tersebut adalah penggunaan pendekatan pembelajaran yang kurang tepat. Oleh karena itu, dibutuhkan pendekatan pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan kemampuan tersebut. Sebagai alternatif, pendekatan metakognitif diyakini mampu meningkatkan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa. Penerapan pendekatan metakognitif dalam pembelajaran melatih siswa untuk merencanakan, memantau, dan mengevaluasi kemampuan berpikirnya melalui keterampilan metakognisi, seperti pemberian pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang terarah, serta memfasilitasi mereka dalam mencapai indikator-indikator penalaran secara optimal. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang memperoleh pendekatan metakognitif dengan siswa yang tidak memperoleh pendekatan metakognitif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di MTs Negeri 5 Serang pada tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Metode penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian the nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik cluster random sampling. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari tes kemampuan penalaran matematis dan angket respon siswa terhadap pendekatan metakognitif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa yang memperoleh pendekatan metakognitif lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pendekatan saintifik. | |||||||||
