Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a global health issue that often goes undetected in its early stages, posing a risk of severe complications. Non-pharmacological approaches have proven to be effective methods for managing hypertension. Objective: To analyze the effectiveness of combining Slow Deep Breathing Exercise and Isometric Handgrip Exercise in reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive patients at Puskesmas Pagadungan. Methods: This research employed a quantitative quasiexperimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The intervention was conducted consecutively for 15 days. Result: The average systolic blood pressure before the intervention was 159.03 mmHg, which decreased to 150.62 mmHg after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 < α (0.05). Diastolic blood pressure showed a reduction from a median of 95.50 mmHg to 90.00 mmHg, with a p-value of 0.000 < α (0.05). The average decrease in systolic blood pressure was 8.41 mmHg, and in diastolic blood pressure was 5.50 mmHg. Conclusion: The combination of Slow Deep Breathing and Isometric Handgrip Exercise has been proven effective in reducing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
