Abstract
The Objectives of research were firstly to find out the use of WhatsApp media in English subjects, secondly to find out the learning motivation of students in English subjects, and thirdly to determine the effect of using WhatsApp on students’ learning motivation in English subject. The researcher used quantitative research. The result of this study shows that the use of WhatsApp social media is in the medium category, as many as 33 students are the total number of respondents. The average score obtained is 39.39 in the good category. Motivation to learn English is known to be in the medium category. This is evidenced by the average value of 42.15 in the quality table using a standard scale of 5. And the use of WhatsApp social media has a 12% influence in terms of its relation to student learning motivation. Based on the result, it can be concluded that WhatsApp application was appropriate to be used for teaching English during the covid-19 pandemic at SMPN 1 Bojonegara.

Additional Information: | Tujuan penelitian adalah pertama untuk mengetahui penggunaan media WhatsApp dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris, kedua untuk mengetahui motivasi belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris, dan ketiga untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan WhatsApp terhadap motivasi belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Peneliti menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media sosial WhatsApp berada dalam kategori sedang, sebanyak 33 siswa merupakan jumlah total responden. Skor rata-rata yang diperoleh adalah 39,39 pada kategori baik. Motivasi untuk belajar bahasa Inggris dikenal berada dalam kategori menengah. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata 42,15 pada tabel mutu menggunakan skala standar 5. Dan penggunaan media sosial WhatsApp memiliki pengaruh 12% dalam hal kaitannya dengan motivasi belajar siswa. Berdasarkan hasilnya, dapat disimpulkan bahwa aplikasi WhatsApp tepat digunakan untuk mengajar bahasa Inggris di masa pandemi covid-19 di SMPN 1 Bojonegara. | |||||||||
