Abstract

Math anxiety is a negative emotional response to math. This is usually in the form of nervousness or fear when thinking about and doing a math task. This research is a descriptive correlative research with a quantitative approach to explain whether there is a relationship between math anxiety and students' math learning outcomes. The design used in this research is descriptive design and correlation design. This study aims to analyze the relationship between mathematics anxiety level and mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students based on mathematics ability. The population of this study is class VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Padarincang as many as 239 students, using Disproportionate Stratified Random Sampling and Cluster Random Sampling techniques obtained a sample of 71 students. The data analysis technique used is Rank Spearman correlation analysis and Kruskal Wallis analysis. The results showed that: 1) there is no significant relationship between math anxiety level and mathematics learning outcomes of junior high school students based on math ability. 2) there is a difference in the level of math anxiety in students with high, medium, and low math ability.

Additional Information: Kecemasan matematika merupakan respon emosional negatif terhadap matematika. Hal ini biasanya berupa rasa gugup atau takut ketika memikirkan dan mengerjakan suatu tugas matematika. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif korelatif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif untuk menjelaskan apakah ada hubungan antara kecemasan matematika dengan hasil belajar matematika siswa. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah desain deskriptif dan desain korelasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara tingkat kecemasan matematika dengan hasil belajar matematika siswa SMP berdasarkan kemampuan matematika. Populasi dari penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Padarincang sebanyak 239 siswa, dengan menggunakan teknik Disroportionate Stratified Random Sampling dan Cluster Random Sampling diperoleh sampel sebanyak 71 siswa. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis korelasi Rank Spearman dan analisis Kruskal Wallis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara tingkat kecemasan matematika dengan hasil belajar matematika siswa SMP berdasarkan kemampuan matematika. 2) terdapat perbedaan tingkat kecemasan matematika pada siswa dengan kemampuan matematika tinggi, sedang, dan rendah.
