Abstract
ABSTRACT Petung bamboo has great potential as a structural material due to its excellent mechanical properties and abundant availability. However, the natural strength of bamboo has certain limitations, necessitating innovations in its reinforcement. This study aims to analyze the physical and mechanical characteristics of petung bamboo and evaluate the effectiveness of epoxy resin as a reinforcement material for laminated bamboo. The research methodology includes laboratory tests to determine the moisture content, specific gravity, and density of petung bamboo, as well as mechanical tests to assess compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength, modulus of rupture (MOR), and modulus of elasticity (MOE). Furthermore, laminated bamboo columns were tested with different reinforcement variations: unreinforced (KPLB – N), partially reinforced with steel plates (KPLB – B), partially reinforced with epoxy resin (KPLB – R), and fully reinforced on all sides (KPLB – FR). The test results indicate that petung bamboo has a low moisture content of 2.133%, a specific gravity of 1.021 g/cm³, and a density of 0.81 g/cm³, reflecting good durability. Mechanical tests showed that the compressive strength of cylindrical bamboo was 58.665 MPa, the tensile strength of plain bamboo was 220.381 MPa, the tensile strength of bamboo with skin was 321.728 MPa, the flexural strength of plain bamboo was 272.631 MPa, the MOR was 178.914 MPa, and the MOE was 227,839.507 MPa. The use of epoxy resin significantly improved the strength of laminated bamboo, with the highest compressive strength recorded in specimen C (68.153 MPa), followed by specimen D (62.549 MPa) and specimen A (52.375 MPa). Additionally, laminated bamboo columns exhibited good energy absorption, with specimen D demonstrating the highest energy absorption capacity of 44,340 J. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that applying epoxy resin enhances the strength and durability of laminated bamboo, making it a promising alternative for structural materials. Additional Information: | INTISARI Bambu petung memiliki potensi besar sebagai material struktural berkat sifat mekaniknya yang baik dan ketersediaannya yang melimpah. Kekuatan bambu alami masih memiliki keterbatasan, sehingga diperlukan inovasi dalam penguatannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik fisik dan mekanik bambu petung serta mengevaluasi efektivitas penggunaan resin epoksi sebagai bahan perkuatan pada bambu laminasi. Metode penelitian meliputi pengujian laboratorium terhadap kadar air, berat jenis, dan kerapatan bambu petung, serta uji mekanik terhadap kuat tekan, kuat tarik, kuat lentur, modulus of rupture (MOR), dan modulus elastisitas (MOE). Selain itu, dilakukan pengujian pada bambu laminasi dengan variasi perkuatan resin epoksi, yaitu tanpa perkuatan (KPLB - N), perkuatan pada bagian tertentu dengan pelat baja (KPLB – B), perkuatan pada bagian tertentu dengan resin (KPLB – R), dan perkuatan pada seluruh sisi kolom (KPLB – FR). Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa bambu petung memiliki kadar air rendah sebesar 2,133%, berat jenis 1,021 g/cm³, dan kerapatan 0,81 g/cm³, yang mencerminkan daya tahan yang baik. Uji mekanik menunjukkan kuat tekan bambu silinder sebesar 58,665 MPa, kuat tarik bambu polos 220,381 MPa, kuat tarik bambu dengan kulit 321,728 MPa, kuat lentur bambu polos 272,631 MPa, MOR 178,914 MPa, dan MOE 227.839,507 MPa. Penggunaan resin epoksi terbukti meningkatkan kekuatan bambu laminasi, dengan kuat tekan tertinggi pada benda uji C (68,153 MPa) dibandingkan benda uji D (62,549 MPa) dan benda uji A (52,375 MPa). Selain itu, kolom bambu laminasi mampu menyerap energi dengan baik, di mana benda uji D menunjukkan energi serapan terbesar sebesar 44.340 J. Dari hasil penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan resin epoksi dapat meningkatkan kekuatan serta ketahanan bambu laminasi, menjadikannya alternatif material struktural yang potensial.
