Abstract
This study reports the effectiveness of Fe3O4/Chitosan nanocomposite in degrading CR and analyzes its characteristics, especially its optical and magnetic properties. The synthesis of Fe3O4/Chitosan was successfully carried out using the coprecipitation method with a mass variation of Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:1 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:1)), Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:2 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:2)), Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:3 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:3)), and Fe3O4/Chitosan 4:4 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:4)). The characterization results show that the addition of chitosan can increase the particle size and phase composition of γ-Fe2O3. In addition, the addition of chitosan to Fe3O4 nanoparticles brings new functional groups and causes the particles to be more dispersive. Analysis of magnetic properties shows that there is a decrease in saturation magnetization as chitosan increases and shows soft ferromagnetic properties. Optical analysis shows Fe3O4/Chitosan has the ability to absorb light in the UV to visible light range, supporting its application as a photocatalyst. Congo red degradation tests were conducted by varying the wavelength, power, and dark and UV light conditions. The degradation results showed the highest efficiency of 98.3% by Fe3O4/Chitosan (4:3) under dark conditions in 90 minutes. This nanocomposite can also be used to degrade for several cycles.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini melaporkan mengenai efektivitas nanokomposit Fe3O4/Kitosan dalam mendegradasi Congo Red serta menganalisis karakteristiknya terutama sifat optik dan magnetnya. Sintesis Fe3O4/Kitosan berhasil dilakukan menggunakan metode kopresipitasi dengan variasi massa yaitu Fe3O4/Kitosan 4:1 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:1)), Fe3O4/Kitosan 4:2 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:2)), Fe3O4/Kitosan 4:3 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:3)), dan Fe3O4/Kitosan 4:4 (Fe3O4/Cs (4:4)). Hasil karakterisasi menunjukkan penambahan kitosan dapat meningkatkan ukuran partikel dan komposisi fasa γ-Fe2O3. Selain itu, penambahan kitosan pada nanopartikel Fe3O4 menghadirkan gugus fungsi baru dan menyebabkan partikel lebih dispersif. Analisis sifat magnet menunjukkan bahwa terjadi penurunan magnetisasi saturasi seiring bertambahnya kitosan dan menunjukkan sifat soft ferromagnetic. Analisis optik menunjukkan Fe3O4/Kitosan memiliki kemampuan untuk menyerap cahaya pada rentang sinar UV hingga sinar tampak sehingga mendukung aplikasinya sebagai fotokatalis. Uji degradasi Congo Red dilakukan dengan memvariasikan panjang gelombang, daya, serta kondisi gelap dan lampu UV. Hasil degradasi menunjukkan efisiensi tertinggi sebesar 98,3% oleh Fe3O4/Kitosan (4:3) pada kondisi gelap dalam waktu 90 menit. Nanokomposit ini juga dapat digunakan untuk mendegradasi selama beberapa siklus. | ||||||||||||
