Abstract
Vocabulary mastery plays an important role in learning basic English. Junior high school students are expected to be familiar with basic English vocabulary. However, many junior high school students have not mastered vocabulary yet. This research aimed to determine whether the anagram word game is effective toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 14 Kota Serang in the academic year 2024/2025. This research used a quantitative method with a quasi�experimental non-equivalent control group design. The experimental group was class 7D, and the control group was class 7E with 35 students in each class. This research used a simple random sampling technique. The instrument of this research was a test. It consisted of 15 questions in multiple-choice form for the pre-test and the post-test. The researcher prepared a worksheet as well. After the data was collected, the data analysis was done through the normality test, homogeneity test, and independent samples T-test. The results showed that the data were normally distributed, and homogeneous. Moreover, the independent sample T-test sig. (2- tailed) was 0.029, which was lower than alpha 0.05. It showed that the anagram word game is effective toward students’ vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 14 Kota Serang.

Additional Information: | Penguasaan kosakata memegang peranan penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dasar. Siswa SMP diharapkan sudah menguasai kosakata bahasa Inggris dasar. Namun, masih banyak siswa SMP yang belum menguasai kosakata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah permainan kata anagram efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas VII SMPN 14 Kota Serang tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan rancangan quasi experimental non-equivalent control group design. Kelompok eksperimen adalah kelas 7D dan kelompok kontrol adalah kelas 7E dengan jumlah siswa masing-masing kelas 35 orang. Penelitian ini menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes. Tes ini terdiri dari 15 soal pilihan ganda untuk pre-test dan post-test. Peneliti juga menyiapkan lembar kerja. Setelah data terkumpul, dilakukan analisis data melalui uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji T-sampel independen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa data berdistribusi normal dan homogen. Nilai sig. (2-tailed) uji T-sampel independen sebesar 0,029 lebih kecil dari alpha 0,05. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa permainan kata anagram efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas VII SMPN 14 Kota Serang. | |||||||||
