Abstract

This research aims to determine the application of problem-based learning on the ability to solve story problems on fraction material for grade V students at Cilegon IX State Elementary School. The research method used in this research is quasi experiment and nonequivalent control group design. There are two classes in this study, namely the experimental class and the control class. The population and sample in the experimental class consisted of 16 students who were given treatment by applying problem-based learning and the control class consisted of 16 students who applied direct learning in math learning activities on fraction material. Data collection used in the study using observation sheets, pretest and posttest. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistical analysis, inferential statistical analysis and qualitative descriptive analysis. The result of the research is the ability to solve story problems on fraction material with the application of problem-based learning is better than direct learning. Students' learning activities in the visual, writing and oral aspects with the application of problem-based learning have increased with an average in the visual aspect of 79.70%, writing of 74.50% and oral of 76.57% and an average meeting of 76.8% and students' learning activities are in active criteria.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penerapan problem based learning pada kemampuan menyelesaikan soal cerita materi pecahan pada peserta didik kelas V di SD Negeri Cilegon IX. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah quasi eksperimen dan design nonequivalent control group design. Terdapat dua kelas dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Populasii dan sampel pada kelas eksperimen terdiri dari 16 orang peserta didik yang diberikan perlakuan dengan penerapan problem based learning dan kelas kontrol terdiri dari 16 orang peserta didik yang menerapkan direct learning dalam kegiatan pembelajaran matematika materi pecahan. Pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian menggunakan lembar observasi, pretest dan posttest. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan analisis statistik deskriptif, analisis statistika inferensial dan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian adalah kemampuan menyelesaikan soal cerita pada materi pecahan dengan penerapan problem based learning lebih baik daripada direct learning. Aktivitas belajar peserta didik pada aspek visual, menulis dan lisan dengan penerapan problem based learning mengalami peningkatan dengan rata-rata pada aspek visual sebesar 79,70%, menulis sebesar 74,50% dan lisan sebesar 76,57% dan rata-rata pertemuan sebesar 76,8% dan aktivitas belajar peserta didik berada pada kriteria aktif.
