Abstract

This research aims to analyze the students’ difficulties and expectation in learning writing descriptive text of seventh grade students at SMPIT Widya Cendekia. To know the students’ difficulties in learning writing descriptive text, by documentation and questionnaire and to know students’ expectations in learning writing descriptive text by interviews. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a case study design. The participants in this research are seventh grade students of VII-A it consist of 20 students. The results of this research is the researcher found among the writing components, such as organization, vocabulary, grammar, mechanics and content, vocabulary is considered the most difficult one in writing descriptive text at SMPIT Widya Cendekia. Based on the result of the highest percentage from each indicator, the main difficulty in writing descriptive text was vocabulary, it was 84%. Besides that, students also have expectation in learning writing descriptive text. In this case, students have expectation to learn how to develop ideas, select and organize them, evaluate and revise what they have written in learning writing descriptive text.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesulitan dan harapan siswa dalam pembelajaran menulis teks deskriptif siswa kelas tujuh di SMPIT Widya Cendekia. Untuk mengetahui kesulitan siswa dalam belajar menulis teks deskriptif melalui dokumentasi dan angket dan untuk mengetahui harapan siswa dalam belajar menulis teks deskriptif melalui wawancara. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Partisipan dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas tujuh VII-A yang berjumlah 20 siswa. Hasil penelitian ini adalah peneliti menemukan di antara komponen-komponen penulisan, seperti organisasi, kosakata, tata bahasa, mekanika dan isi, kosakata dianggap paling sulit dalam menulis teks deskriptif di SMPIT Widya Cendekia. Berdasarkan hasil persentase tertinggi dari masing-masing indikator, kesulitan utama dalam menulis teks deskriptif adalah kosa kata yaitu sebesar 84%. Selain itu siswa juga mempunyai harapan dalam pembelajaran menulis teks deskriptif. Dalam hal ini, siswa mempunyai harapan untuk mempelajari bagaimana mengembangkan ide, memilih dan mengorganisasikannya, mengevaluasi dan merevisi apa yang telah ditulisnya dalam pembelajaran menulis teks deskriptif.
