Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of utilizing used plastic bottles in the cultivation of ornamental plants with the verticulture method on the environmental literacy of high school students. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design research design. The population in this study were grade X students of SMAN 7 Serang City in the 2024/2025 school year. The sampling technique used was Simple Random Sampling with samples in the form of X3 class students as the control class and X5 as the experimental class. Data collection techniques are in the form of tests consisting of multiple-choice questions for knowledge and skills, and non-tests are in the form of questionnaires in the realm of character and behavior. The data analysis technique used consists of normality and homogeneity tests as a prerequisite test then continued hypothesis testing with the independent sample t-test. The results of this study are in the form of average pretest and posttest scores of students' environmental literacy. The average pretest score of control class students was 163.17, while the experimental class was 170.61. Furthermore, the average posttest score of control class students was 167.88, while experimental class students obtained an average score of 177.14. The hypothesis test results obtained a a p-value of 0.00 (0,00 < 0.05), which means that H_0 is rejected while H_(1 ) is accepted. Based on these results, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence between variables. This research implied that the activity of using used plastic bottles in cultivating ornamental plants using the verticulture method can be used as a recommendation for P5 activities in schools.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemanfaatan botol plastik bekas pada budidaya tanaman hias dengan metode vertikultur terhadap literasi lingkungan siswa SMA. Metode yang digunakan adalah quasi eksperimen dengan desain penelitian non-equivalent control group design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMAN 7 Kota Serang tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah simple random sampling dengan sampel berupa siswa kelas X3 sebagai kelas kontrol dan X5 sebagai kelas eksperimen. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes yang terdiri dari soal pilihan ganda untuk domain pengetahuan dan keterampilan serta non-tes berupa angket pada domain karakter dan perilaku. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan terdiri dari uji normalitas dan homogenitas sebagai uji prasyarat kemudian dilanjutkan uji hipotesis dengan uji independent sample T-test. Hasil penelitian ini berupa rata-rata nilai pretest dan posttest literasi lingkungan siswa. Rata-rata nilai pretest yang diperoleh siswa kelas kontrol sebesar 163, 17, sedangkan kelas eksperimen sebesar 170,61. Selanjutnya rata-rata nilai posttest yang diperoleh siswa kelas kontrol sebesar 167, 88, sedangkan siswa kelas eksperimen memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 177, 14. Hasil uji hipotesis diperoleh nilai p sebesar 0,00 (0,00<0,05), hal ini berarti H_0ditolak sedangkan H_(1 )diterima. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antar variabel. Implikasi pada penelitian ini yaitu kegiatan pemanfaatan botol plastik bekas pada budidaya tanaman hias dengan metode vertikultur dapat dijadikan sebagai rekomendasi kegiatan P5 di sekolah.
