Abstract

This research is intended to improve the explanatory text writing skills of class XI students at SMAN 1 Ciruas. The problem in this research is that students experience difficulties in writing explanatory texts. Considering the importance of explanatory text writing skills, the author uses the Think Pair Share (TPS) model and the Picture and Picture model. This research uses an experimental method with a quantitative approach and design selection in the form of a pretest posttest control group design. The sampling technique is cluster sampling. Data collection techniques from the results of explanatory text writing tests are in the form of pretests and posttests for experimental and control classes with assessment instruments, namely content, content organization, grammar, style: choice of structure and vocabulary, as well as spelling and writing system. The findings reveal that the Think Pair Share (TPS) model leads to an average pretest score of 63.45 and a posttest score of 86.94, whereas the Picture and Picture model results in an average pretest score of 60.97 and a posttest score of 79.02. The TPS model shows a superior improvement with a difference of 7.92 points in posttest scores. Consequently, the study concludes that the Think Pair Share (TPS) model is more effective than the Picture and Picture model in improving students' explanatory text writing skills.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks eksplanasi siswa kelas XI SMAN 1 Ciruas. Masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam hal menulis teks eksplanasi. Mengingat pentingnya keterampilan menulis teks eksplanasi, maka penulis menggunakan model Think Pair Share (TPS) dan model Picture and Picture. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan pemilihan desain berupa pretest posttest control group design. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan cluster sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dari hasil tes menulis teks eksplanasi berupa pretest dan posttest kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dengan instrumen penilaian, yaitu isi, organisasi isi, tata bahasa, gaya:pilihan struktur dan kosakata, serta ejaan dan tata tulis. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa model Think Pair Share (TPS) menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan, dengan rata-rata pretest naik dari 63,45 menjadi 86,94 pada posttest. Sebaliknya, model Picture and Picture menunjukkan peningkatan dari rata-rata pretest 60,97 menjadi 79,02. Ketika membandingkan hasil posttest, model TPS unggul dengan selisih 7,92 poin. Kesimpulannya, model Think Pair Share terbukti lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks eksplanasi dibandingkan model Picture and Picture.
