Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether short story has an effectiveness on students' irregular past tense verb enrichment at the eleventh grade of SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang. This study uses a quasi-experimental design to conduct quantitative research. The sample size for this study was 60 students, of which 30 were in the experiment class and 30 were in the control class. At the first meeting, both classes took a pre-test; at the last meeting, they took the post-test. Both classes were given the post-test in order to determine the effectiveness. Using SPSS 26.0, the independent sample t-test was used to calculate the hypothesis test. The outcome showed that short story had a beneficial impact on students' irregular past tense verb enrichment at the eleventh grade of SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang . The independent t-test resulted in a t-count of 2.310, greater than the t-table of 2.001 (2.310>2.010). As a result, this demonstrates that the alternative theory is accepted. It means using short story increase students’ irregular past tense verb knowledge. Thus, it can be said that there is any effectiveness of using short story toward students’ irregular past tense verb enrichment at the eleventh grade of SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah cerpen memiliki efektivitas dalam memperkaya kata kerja bentuk lampau tidak beraturan pada siswa kelas XI SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimental untuk melakukan penelitian kuantitatif. Jumlah sampel untuk penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa, dimana 30 siswa di kelas eksperimen dan 30 siswa di kelas kontrol. Pada pertemuan pertama, kedua kelas mengikuti pre-test, dan pada pertemuan terakhir, mereka mengikuti post-test. Kedua kelas diberikan post-test untuk menentukan efektivitasnya. Dengan menggunakan SPSS 26.0, independent sample t-test digunakan untuk menghitung uji hipotesis. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa cerita pendek memiliki dampak yang menguntungkan pada penguasaan kata kerja bentuk lampau tidak beraturan siswa di kelas XI SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang. Uji-t independen menghasilkan t-hitung sebesar 2,310, lebih besar dari t-tabel sebesar 2,001 (2,310>2,010).ALhasil, hal ini menunjukkan bahwa alternatif hypothesis diterima. Artinya, penggunaan cerita pendek dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan kata kerja bentuk lampau tidak beraturan pada siswa. Dengan demikian, dapat dikatakan bahwa ada efektivitas penggunaan cerita pendek terhadap peguasaan kata kerja bentuk lampau tidak beraturan terhadap siswa di kelas sebelas SMAN 13 Kabupaten Tangerang.
