Abstract

The objectives of this research were to describe the implementation of words category method in teaching vocabulary and to know whether there is any improvement for students’ achievement in learning vocabulary by using words category method at the fifth grade of SDN 4 Ciruas. This research is a classroom action research that applied qualitative method. The main of qualitative research is to find out the information about the students’ improvement in vocabulary by using words category method. The subject of this research was all of students of the fifth grade of SDN 4 Ciruas, and the sample of this research was the students of V/B which consisted of 47 students. Before conducting the treatment, the researcher conducted Pretest. The result of pretest was 50.4. it was below the average score. After conducting the treatment in cycle 1, the result of post-test 1 was 80.1. Then in cycle 2, the result of post-test 2 was 92.2. Based on the test result, the improvement of pretest to post test 1 was 29.7%, while from post-test 1 to post-test 2 was 12.1%. It means that the words category method is effective in improving students’ vocabulary. Keywords : Teaching Vocabulary, Words Category Method
