Abstract

This research was aimed to know the effect of giving azolla compost and inorganic nitrogen fertilizer on the growth and yield of cayene pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.). The research was conducted at Mayang Pratama Housing Block A, Village of Mustikasari, Mustika Jaya subdistrict East Bekasi, from September 2016 to January 2017. The research used Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) which consisted of two factors. The first factor was azolla compost, which consisted of four levels: A1 = 0 g/polybag; A2 = 49 g/polybag; A3 = 61,25 g/polybag; and A4 = 73,5 g/polybag. The second factor was urea fertilizer, which consisted of four levels: U1 = 0 g/polybag; U2 = 7,35 g/polybag; U3 = 14,7 g/polybag; U4 = 22,05 g/polybag. Each treatment was repeated three time to obtain the result that 48 experimental unit. Parameters measured were the height of plant, diameter rod plant, the flowering time, the number of fruits, the weight of fruits, the fresh weigt of fruits, the dry weight of fruits, and the leaf chlorophyll content. The results showed that the azolla compost treatment had significant effect on the observed variables of plant height, plant stem diameter, the flowering time and chlorophyll content, while azolla compost 73, 50 g/polybag gives the best growth against high parameters plant age 2 week after planting (13.01 cm), 3 week after planting (20.30 cm), 4 week after planting (26.85 cm), 5 week after planting (35.01 cm), stem diameter plant on age 2 week after planting (31.21 mm), 3 week after planting (4.21 mm), 11 week after planting (9.76 mm) and 12 week after planting (9.86 mm), time appear interest (23.00 days), and levels chlorophyll (26.96 μmol/m²). The urea fertilizer treatment had significant effect on observation variable of plant stem diameter, and chlorophyll content, while urea fertilizer 14, 70 g/polybag gives the best growth the parameters of stem diameter plant 7 week after planting (9.02 mm), 8 week after planting (9.59 mm), and 9 week after planting (9.85 mm), and levels chlorophyll (21.61 μmol/m²). The interaction between azolla compost and urea fertilizer treatment on observation variable A4U2 plant stem diameter 2 weeks after planting (3.58 mm), 3 weeks after planting (4.48 mm), and on observed variables A1U1 leaf chlorophyll content (37.29 μmol/m² ).
