Abstract
This research aims to improve the reading skills of fifth grade students of SDN Warnasari school by using guided reading and thinking activities as a learning method in English subjects. This study was classroom action research and was conducted in three cycles. Methods used to collect data include documentation, observation, and experimentation. Meanwhile the data analysis methods used are minimum completion criteria (KKM), classic completion score, student average score, student observation sheet evaluation and after analyzing the using this data, one will know whether the 19 Class V students of SDN Warnasari have improved or not in their reading skills. The increase in students' reading comprehension can be seen from classical completeness which shows that from one cycle to the next, classical completeness scores increased from 58% in cycle I to 84% in cycle II and increased to 100% in cycle III. The average student score in cycles I and II also increased, from 76.4 in cycle I to 82.10 in cycle II and increased to 86.31 in cycle III. The conclusion is that the application of the Directed Reading and Thinking Activity method can improve students' reading skills in English subjects in class V at SDN Warnasari for the 2023/2024 academic year.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca siswa kelas V SDN Warnasari dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran Directed Reading and Thinking Activity pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas dan dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data meliputi dokumentasi, observasi, dan eksperimen. Sedangkan metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah KKM, nilai ketuntasan klasikal, nilai rata-rata siswa, lembar observasi penilaian siswa dan setelah dilakukan analisis data maka akan diketahui apakah keterampilan membaca siswa Kelas V SDN Warnasari yang berjumlah 19 orang mengalami peningkatan atau tidak. Peningkatan pemahaman bacaan siswa dapat dilihat dari ketuntasan klasikal yang menunjukkan bahwa dari satu siklus ke siklus berikutnya nilai ketuntasan klasikal mengalami peningkatan dari 58% pada siklus I menjadi 84% pada siklus II dan meningkat menjadi 100% pada siklus III. Nilai rata-rata siswa pada siklus I dan II juga mengalami peningkatan yaitu dari 76,4 pada siklus I menjadi 82,10 pada siklus II dan meningkat menjadi 86,31 pada siklus III. Kesimpulannya adalah penerapan metode Directed Reading and Thinking Activity dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca siswa pada mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di kelas V SDN Warnasari tahun pelajaran 2023/2024. | |||||||||
