Abstract

This research was aimed to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery in learning English through the Look-Say method at seventh-grade of MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Dahu. In conducting the research, the researcher used a quasi-experimental quantitative research method. The researcher used cluster random sampling for this research because of the selected researcher (quasi-experimental research). In this research, the population and the sample are the same because the school only has three classes of seventh-graders. The instruments in this research are the pre-test and post-test. The item tests were tested the validity based on course objectives on the syllabus of seventh-grade MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Dahu and the reliability using the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 application with the Cronbach Alpa formula. The main finding of this research showed the result of the Independent T-test from students’ score of the post-test that was 0.000, which indicated a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. The impact through the Look-Say method seems to be significant in student’s improvement in vocabulary mastery. It can be concluded that treatment have been effective.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris melalui metode Look-Say di kelas tujuh MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Dahu. Dalam melakukan penelitian, peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kuantitatif eksperimen semu. Peneliti menggunakan cluster random sampling untuk penelitian ini karena peneliti terpilih (penelitian eksperimen semu). Dalam penelitian ini populasi dan sampelnya sama karena sekolah tersebut hanya memiliki tiga kelas siswa kelas VII. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini adalah pre-test dan post-test. Tes soal diuji validitasnya berdasarkan tujuan mata pelajaran pada silabus kelas VII MTs Mathla’ul Anwar Dahu dan reliabilitasnya menggunakan aplikasi IBM SPSS Statistics 23 dengan rumus Cronbach Alpa. Temuan utama penelitian ini menunjukkan hasil uji Independent T-test dari nilai post-test siswa sebesar 0,000 yang menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Dampak melalui metode Look-Say tampaknya signifikan terhadap peningkatan penguasaan kosa kata siswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengobatan telah efektif.
