Abstract

Surface layer concrete asphalt is a layer that has an important role in improving driving comfort and safety, however, over time surface layer concrete asphalt will undergo an aging process that results in a decrease in road performance and quality. Wood charcoal waste filler can be used as an alternative material because it has the same content as asphalt so it has the potential as a filler material in surface layer mixtures (AC-WC). This study discusses the effect of the addition of wood charcoal waste as a filler substitute on the aging of surface layer asphalt mixture (AC-WC) to determine the characteristics of aggregate materials, asphalt and wood charcoal filler and the effect of asphalt aging with wood charcoal filler substitute materials using STOA and LTOA aging procedures. Concrete asphalt test specimens were made with wood charcoal content of 0%, 1.5%, 2% and 2.5% at the optimum asphalt content conditions of 6.25%, 6.25%, 6% and 6%. STOA aging testing was carried out by an oven process at 135°C for 4 hours and then compacted and LTOA aging testing was carried out by a compaction process then in an oven at 85°C for 120 hours or 5 days. Based on the results of the study, the results showed the characteristics of natural aggregate materials, asphalt and wood charcoal filler in accordance with the provisions of Bina Marga 2018 Revision 2. The characteristics of wood charcoal obtained meet the specifications in the aging conditions of STOA and LTOA with an increase in VMA, VIM, and flow values decreasing VFA, Stability and MQ values with each addition of charcoal variation. So that the aging process is slower with the presence of wood charcoal waste

Additional Information: Aspal beton lapis permukaan merupakan lapisan yang memiliki peran penting dalam meningkatkan kenyamanan dan keamanan berkendara, Namun, seiring waktu aspal beton lapis permukaan akan mengalami proses penuaan yang mengakibatkan penurunan kinerja dan kualitas jalan. Filler limbah arang kayu dapat digunakan sebagai material alternatif karena memiliki kandungan yang sama seperti aspal sehingga memiliki potensi sebagai bahan pengisi pada campuran lapis permukaan (AC-WC). Penelitian ini membahas tentang pengaruh penambahan limbah arang kayu sebagai pengganti filler terhadap penuaan campuran aspal beton lapis permukaan (AC-WC) untuk mengetahui karakteristik material agregat, aspal dan filler arang kayu dan pengaruh penuaan aspal dengan bahan pengganti filler arang kayu menggunakan prosedur penuaan STOA dan LTOA. Benda uji aspal beton dibuat dengan kadar arang kayu 0%, 1,5%, 2% dan 2,5% pada kondisi kadar aspal optimum 6,25%, 6,25%, 6% dan 6%. Pengujian penuaan STOA dilakukan dengan proses pengovenan dengan suhu 135℃ selama 4 jam lalu dipadatkan dan pengujian penuaan LTOA dilakukan dengan proses pemadatan lalu di oven pada suhu 85℃ selama 120 jam atau 5 hari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian menunjukkan hasil karakteristik material agregat alam, aspal dan filler arang kayu sesuai dengan ketentuan Bina Marga 2018 Revisi 2. Karakteriktik arang kayu yang didapatkan memenuhi spesifikasi pada kondisi penuaan STOA dan LTOA dengan meningkatnya nilai VMA, VIM, dan flow menurunnya nilai VFA, Stabilitas dan MQ pada setiap penambahan variasi arang. Sehingga proses penuaan lebih lambat dengan adanya limbah arang kayu.
