Abstract

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a fruit plant that belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family. Melon is a fruit that many people like because of its sweet taste. Melon production in Indonesia decreased from 2021 to 2022 due to the lack of availability of local seeds, leading many farmers to use imported seeds, which resulted in less efficient melon cultivation. The solution to reduce melon production costs is to use superior local seeds. Superior seeds can be produced through plant breeding methods to develop new hybrid varieties. The steps in plant breeding include yield tests, multilocation tests, and other evaluation tests. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity and uniformity of characteristics in the four observed melon strains. The research was conducted from November 2023 to January 2024 at PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari, Dramaga, Bogor. The research used a single plant method with five treatments consisting of four melon strains (IT-1, IT-2, IT-7, and IT-8) and one comparison variety (F1 Minion). Based on the results of descriptive analysis, analysis of variance, principal component analysis, and cluster analysis, it was found that there was uniformity within each melon strain, diversity among the melon strains, and distinguishing characteristics which can differentiate the tested melon strains. Based on the analysis results, the IT-1 and IT-7 strains can be used as parents due to their advantages in fruit weight and sugar content.

Additional Information: Melon (Cucumis melo L.) adalah tanaman buah yang termasuk dalam keluarga Cucurbitaceae. Melon merupakan buah yang disukai banyak orang karena rasanya yang manis. Produksi melon di Indonesia mengalami penurunan pada tahun 2021 hingga 2022 karena kurangnya ketersediaan benih lokal, sehingga banyak petani yang menggunakan benih impor yang mengakibatkan budidaya melon kurang efisien. Solusi untuk menekan biaya produksi melon adalah dengan menggunakan benih unggul lokal. Benih unggul dapat dihasilkan melalui metode pemuliaan tanaman untuk mengembangkan varietas hibrida baru. Tahapan dalam pemuliaan tanaman meliputi uji daya hasil, uji multilokasi, dan uji evaluasi lainnya. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keragaman dan keseragaman karakteristik pada empat galur melon yang diamati. Penelitian dilakukan dari bulan November 2023 sampai Januari 2024 di PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari, Dramaga, Bogor. Penelitian menggunakan metode tanaman tunggal dengan lima perlakuan yang terdiri dari empat galur melon (IT-1, IT-2, IT-7, dan IT-8) dan satu varietas pembanding (F1 Minion). Berdasarkan hasil analisis deskriptif, analisis ragam, analisis komponen utama, dan analisis klaster, diketahui bahwa terdapat keseragaman pada setiap galur melon, keragaman antar galur melon, dan karakter pembeda yang dapat membedakan galur-galur melon yang diuji. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, galur IT-1 dan IT-7 dapat digunakan sebagai tetua karena memiliki keunggulan pada bobot buah dan kadar gula.
