Abstract

Asphalt pavement is often damaged on newly constructed roads such as aging of the asphalt mixture. The amount of steel slag in Cilegon city has increased significantly, so it can be utilized as an asphalt pavement mixture material to increase the stability of asphalt mixtures. The purpose of this research is to determine the characteristics of asphalt mixture with steel slag against short-term aging. The method used is to heat the loose asphalt mixture in the oven for 4 hours with a temperature of 135 ℃ as a simulation of overlaying and compaction of asphalt mixture on the road to be built. Based on the research, the results of the material characteristics of natural aggregates, steel slag and asphalt are in accordance with the provisions of Bina Marga 2018, the physical and chemical properties of steel slag are obtained based on SEM and XRF testing, the marshall characteristics obtained meet the specifications with the highest stability value in the test specimen using 50% steel slag content and decreased at 100% steel slag content. In aging conditions, the stability value decreased compared to normal conditions but the asphalt mixture with steel slag had a greater stability value with a slower aging process than the asphalt mixture without steel slag.

Additional Information: Perkerasan jalan aspal sering mengalami kerusakan pada jalan yang baru dibangun misalnya penuaan campuran aspal. Jumlah terak baja yang berada di kota Cilegon meningkat secara signifikan, sehingga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan campuran perkerasan aspal untuk meningkatkan stabilitas campuran aspal. Pada penelitian ini steel slag akan digunakan sebagai bahan substitusi agregat halus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik campuran aspal dengan steel slag terhadap penuaan jangka pendek. Metode yang digunakan adalah dengan memanaskan campuran aspal lepas di dalam oven selama 4 jam dengan suhu 135 ℃ sebagai simulasi penghamparan dan pemadatan campuran aspal di jalan yang akan dibangun. Berdasarkan penelitian didapatkan hasil karakteristik material agregat alam, steel slag dan aspal sesuai dengan ketentuan Bina Marga 2018, didapatkan sifat fisik dan kimia steel slag berdasarkan pengujian SEM dan XRF, karakteristik marshall yang didapatkan memenuhi spesifikasi dengan nilai stabilitas tertinggi pada benda uji menggunakan kadar steel slag 50% dan mengalami penurunan pada kadar steel slag 100% . Pada kondisi penuaan, nilai stabilitas mengalami penurunan dibandingkan kondisi normal namun campuran aspal dengan steel slag memiliki nilai stabilitas yang lebih besar dengan proses penuaan yang lebih lambat dibandingkan campuran aspal tanpa steel slag.
