Abstract

This research investigated the integration and assessment of listening, speaking, viewing, and presenting skills within the specialized subjects of “Writing” and “Reading” at Assa’adah Islamic Boarding School, focusing on 4th-grade students under the Government Curriculum, the Merdeka Curriculum. The study evaluated how the segmentation of the English language curriculum into these specialized subjects impacted the overall effectiveness of English language learning. Using a qualitative approach guided by the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation), data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with teachers, curriculum staff, and students, and a thorough examination of curriculum documents. The result revealed that the segmented curriculum allowed for a more focused and structured approach to teaching English, enhancing students’ retention and understanding of language skills. The unique boarding school environment further supported this development through practical activities such as public speaking (muhadhoroh) and English debate training by adopted Gontor Curriculum with the name Madrasatul Mu`allimin Al-Islamiyah) MMI Assa’adah. Overall, the segmented curriculum and the boarding school environment significantly improved the English learning experience, meeting the objectives of the Merdeka Curriculum effectively.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini mengkaji integrasi dan penilaian keterampilan mendengarkan, berbicara, melihat, dan mempresentasikan dalam mata pelajaran khusus "Writing" dan "Reading" di Pondok Pesantren Assa'adah, dengan fokus pada siswa kelas 4 yang mengikuti Kurikulum Pemerintah, yaitu Kurikulum Merdeka. Studi ini mengevaluasi bagaimana segmentasi kurikulum Bahasa Inggris menjadi mata pelajaran khusus ini memengaruhi efektivitas keseluruhan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang dipandu oleh model ADDIE (Analisis, Desain, Pengembangan, Implementasi, dan Evaluasi), data dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas, wawancara semi-terstruktur dengan guru, staf kurikulum, dan siswa, serta pemeriksaan mendalam terhadap dokumen kurikulum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kurikulum yang tersegmentasi memungkinkan pendekatan yang lebih terfokus dan terstruktur dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris, meningkatkan retensi dan pemahaman siswa terhadap keterampilan bahasa. Lingkungan pondok pesantren yang unik lebih mendukung pengembangan ini melalui kegiatan praktis seperti pidato umum (muhadhoroh) dan pelatihan debat Bahasa Inggris yang diadopsi dari Kurikulum Gontor dengan nama Madrasatul Mu`allimin Al-Islamiyah (MMI Assa’adah). Secara keseluruhan, kurikulum yang tersegmentasi dan lingkungan pondok pesantren secara signifikan meningkatkan pengalaman pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, secara efektif memenuhi tujuan Kurikulum Merdeka.
