Abstract

The perception of being childfree within the social construction of Indonesian society is that childfree individuals hold values that differ and do not align with the ideal family concept in Indonesia. A person's happiness is also measured by marriage, family, and children, which is considered patriarchal and heteronormative, placing women in a subordinate position. As an effort to liberate the rights and freedoms of women as owners of reproductive tools, the Childfree Indonesia Community emerges through discourse as an alternative choice to free women from the shackles of patriarchy. This research is a multidisciplinary study using Foucault's thoughts on discourse and governmentality, which includes three indicators: episteme, discursivity, and panopticon. Furthermore, this research uses a qualitative method with a Merleau-Ponty phenomenological approach. The results confirm that the concept of being childfree held by childfree advocates is not entirely based on ideological or philosophical reasons but also practical ones. However, childfree advocates in Indonesia have successfully made efforts to promote women's autonomy by introducing the concept of female independence that is not tied to the traditional roles of mother and wife, thus giving women control over their own bodies. This research also confirms that the decision to be childfree is not tied to marriage and is not specifically directed at any particular gender or sexual orientation.

Additional Information:	Anggapan mengenai childfree dalam konstruksi sosial masyarakat Indonesia adalah bahwa childfree memiliki nilai-nilai yang berbeda dan tidak sejalan dengan konsep keluarga ideal di Indonesia. Kebahagiaan seseorang juga diukur berdasarkan pernikahan, keluarga, dan anak, sehingga hal tersebut dianggap bersifat patriarki dan heteronormatif yang menyebabkan perempuan berada pada posisi subordinat. Sebagai upaya pembebasan terhadap hak dan kebebasan perempuan sebagai pemilik alat reproduksi, maka Komunitas Childfree Indonesia hadir melalui diskursus sebagai pilihan alternatif agar perempuan terbebas dari belenggu patriarki. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian multidisiplin menggunakan pemikiran Foucault mengenai diskursus dan governmentality yang di dalamnya terdapat tiga indikator yakni episteme, diskursivitas, dan panopticon. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi Merleau-Ponty. Hasil penelitian mengonfirmasi bahwa konsep childfree yang dipegang teguh para penggiat childfree belum sepenuhnya berlandaskan alasan ideologis atau filosofis melainkan ada juga yang memilih dengan alasan praktis. Namun, para penggiat childfree di Indonesia telah berhasil melakukan upaya untuk mengusung otoritas kemandirian perempuan dengan memperkenalkan konsep kemandirian perempuan yang tidak terikat pada peran tradisional menjadi ibu dan istri, sehingga para perempuan memiliki kontrol dalam menentukan pilihan atas tubuhnya sendiri. Penelitian ini sekaligus mengonfirmasi bahwa keputusan menjadi childfree tidak terikat dengan pernikahan dan tidak spesifik ditujukan pada gender ataupun orientasi seksual tertentu saja.
