Abstract
Coloring using synthetic dyes can have a negative impact on the environment such as producing waste. Based on these problems, it is necessary to use textile dyes with natural ingredients as a substitute for chemical (synthetic) dyes. One of the natural materials that can be utilized as a natural dye is green seaweed Caulerpa racemosa. One of the application for coloring textile is by using cotton fabric. This research was conducted in February - May 2024 at Fishery Product Processing Technology Laboratory, Fisheries Science Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. Data analysis used the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) method and descriptive method. the concentration of C. racemosa seaweed used was 0% (synthetic dye), 5%, 10%, 15%. The results showed that C. racemosa seaweed extract can be applied as a natural dye on cotton fabrics as indicated by the results of the color fastness test against wet rubbing and dry rubbing in all treatments that meet SNI 0288: 2008. The best concentration of C. racemosa is at a concentration of 5%.
