Abstract

Corn crop production during the 2020-2022 period did not meet domestic corn needs, marked by the volume of corn imports which increased by 237.59 thousand tons. One of the causes of corn production under demand is global warming which impacts the el-nino phenomenon. One of the efforts to deal with drought stress is to use plant growth-promoting bacteria or PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria). This study aims to determine the specific character of a consortium of drought-resistant bacteria from Kayoa, North Maluku, and the response of corn plants (Zea mays L.) in drought stress after inoculation of dry-resistant bacteria. This research was conducted at the applied microbiology laboratory and research greenhouse of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Cibinong from November 2023 to February 2024. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and complete randomized design (RAL) with two factors, namely water content (k) and bacterial consortium (m). The results showed that dry-resistant bacterial isolates could bind free nitrogen and produce catalase and ACC Deaminase enzymes and IAA hormones. The response of maize plants (Zea mays L.) to different moisture content treatments affected plant height 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 MST, number of leaves 2 and 3 MST, wet weight and dry weight of cobs. Bacterial consortium treatments affected plant height 1-2 MST, leaf count 2-8 MST fresh and header dry weight, proline content, malondialdehyde, content fresh and root dry weight. Additional Information: Produksi tanaman jagung selama kurun waktu 2020-2022 tidak mencukupi kebutuhan jagung dalam negri yang ditandai dengan volume impor jagung yang meningkat sebanyak 237,59 Ribu ton. Penyebab produksi jagung dibawah kebutuhan salah satunya yaitu adanya pemanasan global (Global warming) yang berdampak pada adanya fenomena el-nino. Salah satu upaya untuk menghadapi cekaman kekeringan yaitu dengan menggunakan bakteri pemacu tumbuh tanaman atau PGPR (Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria). Penelitian ini bertujuan guna mengetahui karakter spesifik konsorsium bakteri tahan kering asal Kayoa, Maluku Utara dan respon tanaman Jagung (Zea mays L.) dalam cekaman kekeringan setelah inokulasi bakteri tahan kering. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di laboratorium mikrobiologi terapan dan greenhouse riset Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN) Cibinong pada bulan November 2023 s/d bulan Februari 2024. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan dua faktor, yaitu kadar air (k) dan konsorsium bakteri (m). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan isolat bakteri tahan kering mampu mengikat nitrogen bebas, memproduksi enzim katalase dan ACC Deaminase serta hormon IAA. Respon tanaman jagung (Zea mays L.) pada perlakuan kadar air yang berbeda berpengaruh terhadap tinggi tanaman 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 dan 8 MST, jumlah daun 2 dan 3 MST, bobot basah dan bobot kering tongkol. Pada perlakuan konsorsium bakteri berpengaruh bagi tinggi tanaman 1-2 MST, jumlah daun 2-8 MST, bobot basah dan bobot kering tajuk, kandungan prolin, kandungan malondialdehyde, bobot basah dan bobot kering akar. Kata Kunci: Cekaman kekeringan, PGPR, Zea mays L.
