Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the implementation of an Offline English-Indonesian dictionary application in teaching reading comprehension and vocabulary and to measure the improvement in students' reading comprehension and vocabulary using offline English Indonesia dictionary application. The research employed a classroom action research (CAR) method across two cycles, with data collected through tests, observations, and documentation. The procedure followed Kemmis and McTaggart's model of planning, implementing, observing, reflecting, and further planning. The study was conducted with the tenth-grade Pharmacy class at SMK Sains Medika Serang. Observations during the teaching process revealed that the dictionary application made the learning environment more active and engaging. The application's user-friendly interface allowed students to find word meanings, facilitating easier text comprehension quickly. The results demonstrated significant improvement in students' reading comprehension and vocabulary. In the first cycle, the average reading comprehension score increased from a pre-test score of 47.05 to a post-test score of 75.47 and improved to 80.94 in the second cycle. Similarly, vocabulary scores rose from a pre-test score of 47.05 to 68.75 in the first cycle and reached 80.16 in the second. The success criterion was achieving a minimum mastery standard of 80-89%, which was met by more than twenty-five students in reading comprehension and vocabulary by the end of the second cycle. In conclusion, the Offline English-Indonesian dictionary application significantly enhanced students' reading comprehension and vocabulary, demonstrating its usage as a teaching aid.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki penerapan aplikasi kamus Offline Inggris-Indonesia dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca dan kosa kata serta untuk mengukur peningkatan pemahaman membaca dan kosa kata siswa menggunakan aplikasi kamus Offline Inggris-Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, dengan data yang dikumpulkan melalui tes, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Prosedur yang diikuti adalah model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, refleksi, dan perencanaan lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kelas X Farmasi di SMK Sains Medika Serang. Observasi selama proses pengajaran mengungkapkan bahwa aplikasi kamus membuat lingkungan belajar menjadi lebih aktif dan menarik. Antarmuka aplikasi yang ramah pengguna memungkinkan siswa untuk menemukan arti kata, sehingga memudahkan pemahaman teks dengan cepat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dalam pemahaman bacaan dan kosa kata siswa. Pada siklus pertama, skor rata-rata pemahaman bacaan meningkat dari skor pre-test 47,05 menjadi skor post-test 75,47 dan meningkat menjadi 80,94 pada siklus kedua. Demikian pula, skor kosa kata meningkat dari skor pre-test 47,05 menjadi 68,75 pada siklus pertama dan mencapai 80,16 pada siklus kedua. Kriteria keberhasilan adalah mencapai standar ketuntasan minimal 80-89%, yang dicapai oleh lebih dari dua puluh lima siswa dalam pemahaman bacaan dan kosa kata pada akhir siklus kedua. Kesimpulannya, aplikasi kamus Offline Inggris-Indonesia secara signifikan meningkatkan pemahaman bacaan dan kosa kata siswa, menunjukkan penggunaannya sebagai alat bantu pengajaran.
