Abstract

The rapid growth of the palm oil industry is currently causing an increase in the amount of industrial waste produced. So research was carried out to reduce palm oil waste by making particle board to the SNI 03-2105-2006 standard using palm frond and mesocarp waste. This research aims to determine the effect of alkali on performance and evaluate biodegradable particle board products based on SNI. Variables in the study included conditions without treatment, 5% NaOH soaking for 2 hours, 5% NaOH soaking for 4 hours, 10% NaOH soaking for 2 hours, and 10% NaOH soaking for 4 hours. Then the sample composition was mixed with 15% mesocarp, 50% midrib, 25% PVAc, and 10% epoxy resin. After that, compaction was carried out with a pressure of 30 bar within 120 minutes, then curing treatment with a temperature of 150° within 60 minutes. Then testing was carried out, based on the test results for sample A5, it showed the best value in the density test of 0.824 gr/cm3. In the water content test, the best value was obtained for sample A5 at 4.1%. In the thickness expansion test, the best value was obtained by sample A5 at 4.8%. Meanwhile, in testing the modulus of rupture, the best value was obtained for sample A3, amounting to 208.82 kgf/cm2. In testing the modulus of elasticity, the best value was obtained for sample A3, amounting to 12748.2 kgf/cm2. It can be seen from the research that has been carried out that the percentage of alkali greatly influences the test value. The results of this research were analyzed using the Taguchi-Data Envelopment Analysis based Ranking (DEAR) method to obtain the optimum value for each test. It was found that the optimum value was sample A3 with a variation of 5% NaOH soaked for 4 hours and obtained a Multi Response Performance Index (MRPI) value of 1757.44.

Additional Information: Pesatnya pertumbuhan industri kelapa sawit saat ini menyebabkan peningkatan jumlah limbah industri yang dihasilkan. Sehingga dilakukannya penelitian untuk mengurangi limbah kelapa sawit dengan membuat papan partikel dengan standar SNI 03-2105-2006 menggunakan limbah pelepah dan mesokarp kelapa sawit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh alkali terhadap performa dan mengevaluasi produk papan partikel biodegradable berdasarkan SNI. Variabel dalam penelitian mencakup kondisi tanpa perlakuan, NaOH 5% perendaman 2 jam, NaOH 5% perendaman 4 jam, NaOH 10% perendaman 2 jam, dan NaOH 10% perendaman 4 jam. Kemudian dilakukan pencampuran komposisi sampel dengan mesokarp 15%, pelepah 50%, PVAc 25%, dan resin epoxy 10%. Setelah itu dilakukan kompaksi dengan tekanan 30 bar dalam waktu 120 menit, kemudian perlakuan curing dengan suhu 150° dalam waktu 60 menit. Kemudian dilakukan pengujian, berdasarkan hasil pengujian sampel A5 menunjukkan nilai terbaik pada pengujian densitas sebesar 0,824 gr/cm3. Pada pengujian kadar air memiliki nilai terbaik diperoleh sampel A5 sebesar 4.1%. Pada pengujian pengembangan tebal memiliki nilai terbaik diperoleh oleh sampel A5 sebesar 4.8%. Sedangkan pada pengujian modulus of rupture nilai terbaik diperoleh pada sampel A3 sebesar 208,82 kgf/cm2. Pada pengujian modulus of elasticity nilai terbaik diperoleh pada sampel A3 sebesar 12748,2 kgf/cm2. Dilihat pada penelitian yang sudah dilakukan bahwa persentase alkali sangat berpengaruh pada nilai pengujian. Pada hasil penelitian ini dilakukan analisis menggunakan metode taguchi-Data Envelopment Analysis based Ranking (DEAR) untuk mendapatkan nilai optimum setiap pengujian, didapatkan bahwa nilai optimum adalah sampel A3 dengan variasi NaOH 5% perendaman 4jam di dapat nilai Multi Response Performance Index (MRPI) sebesar 1757,44.
